Hello all.
a newbie here. name is Rick. I've been lurking around for a few weeks and reading for about 3-4 hours a night. Just bought a DS7000 system and am generally satisfied with it. Been looking to do some automatin. Been exploring AHP and a few plugins.
One problem, I'm on dial-up and am afraid the files are too sizeable to download. I've been trying to download SDK for a couple of nights now and just give it up. Keep getting knocked off line. Funny I can stay online here for 3-4 hours no problem
I called tech support about the pssibility of buying discs for the software, but nada. How big are these files? The guy in tech said it was just 156K. I couldn't believe my ears. The SDK byitself is 7.28megs.
I guess I'll explore other possibiities.

If you have a online e-mail account have the software link sent there and then have a friend or possibly download it to the CM15a at work or where ever you have access to a high speed internet connection, there's always a way!!!

this raises some questions; in my feeble mind.
- Doesn't the software have to register on the computer that you are going to install it on during the download?
- All the computer computin is done on the CM15A?
- If you can download to another computer and thus load onto the CM15, couldn't you put it on a disc?
- Could some one explain a little about all this?

Yes it does.
All the computer computin is done on the CM15A?
The software (ActiveHome Pro) that you download and install on your PC is a compiler for the data that gets transfered to the CM15A. The downloaded & registered software is not what gets stored in the CM15A.
If you can download to another computer and thus load onto the CM15, couldn't you put it on a disc?
You can't make a complete install disc, but you can download and burn the install files on a CD. I'm not sure what all is contained in these files but they do seem to be faster and more stable when doing an install. You still need the internet connection for at least the registering part.

Well if you have a online account like Yahoo you can access it from anywhere work home friends ect. I downloaded AHP from my house and iWitness from from work which was done on a totally different computer. Also had to reinstall AHP from my computer at work when my internet connection went down at home, Worked for me.

First of all, thanks for being so patient with my ignorance.

This lead me to believe the program was installed to the CM15A.
I have an Earthlink email account that I can access at work. At work I have another
so, where I work has a pretty fast connection, I could download from/to the work computer, burn it to my USB drive, bring it home and start my internet connection, start the install and maybe should work OK?
Appreciate all the help.

downloading to computer didn't work. said I didn't have administrative privileges to make these changes.
I was saving to a 4 gig thumbdrive(usb portable).
So, I tried at home. 30 minutes later I've got 6% done.
Called and got an RMA. Guess I'll have to send it back.
Sure seems like a disc would make matters a lot simpler and would increase sales some also.
Darn, I can't even download the install files. 792K is taken over 15 minutes.

What O/S is the PC running? As to downloading, even on Dial-up should not take more than 14 minutes at 56KB.

I finally got the software downloaded. It took 3.5 hours.
Runs good tho. Happy so far.
Oh, it was XP with a dial-up service.

Wow a very patient person. Glad the time spent was rewarding.
