Title: Home automation
Post by: zymer on January 12, 2009, 10:19:39 PM
I have a large house (4500sq ft)with many x10 controllers of all flavors. I have an amplifier, coupler, filter, and 2 RF receivers, all driven by a CP290(never had any luck with CM15A? or CM11A? overheated and didn't work a few years back) and third party software. Would like to start moving over to 2way controllers. I have a PowerLinc USB 2414U, need 2 way software for my Vista computer that will download to the interface for free or cheap.  Please make a suggestion. Thank you. Len

A CP290?  That is from the 1980's.  What software runs it?   Odds are it may or may not work in Vista.  Did you ever have Active Home Pro and the CM15A?   You said you had a CM15A and it overheated?  I've had every interface X10 ever put out, the CP290, the CM11A and the CM15A and none ever overheated.

Give us some more info as to to modules, etc. so we can assist you.

The 2414U is a Smarthome Insteon controller that can also do X10.
I know they have a free Timer Software on it's web page.
I have also used Ken Miller's InHomeFree on a 2414U PLC; but I don't think I have seen anything on them being Vista ready.
Since the 2414U doesn't do the new Insteon I2 Extended Messageing. Smarthome is now pushing their 2412S Serial Port PLM.

Thanks guys for your response. I forgot to mention I have a TI 103. I think I'll try it with Mr House.
