Title: Need to 'set' an X-10 Primary address so I can use our Insteon Keypads
Post by: Mrs. R A-W on February 11, 2009, 12:18:49 AM
Hi!

The   http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/2486d1_5.pdf  file states, in part,:

However, to operate KeypadLinc Dimmer in X10 mode, you must first set up an X10 Primary Address. As it ships from the factory, or after a factory reset procedure, KeypadLinc Dimmer will have no X10 Primary Address set up.

Setting the X10 Primary Address

You must do this before KeypadLinc Dimmer will respond to X10 commands.

[Note, commands will be created - sent by the Insteon keypads to the X-10 WS467 wall switches rather than respond to X-10 controllers

You can use any of the 256 possible X10 addresses for the X10 Primary Address.
1. Set KeypadLinc Dimmer to Linking Mode by pressing and holding the Desired Button for 10 seconds until the LED begins blinking slowly and the controlled light flashes.
2. Using an X10 Controller, send the X10 Primary Address you want to set up three times.

So what do I 'need' and once I have what I 'need', how do I create (set) a/the X-10 Primary Address?

I searched for X-10 controllers, but apparently I also 'need' a transceiver? to couple the X-10 'signal' to the AC line so the Insteon keypads 'see' / receive a X-10 Primary Address?

Asking another way, how to I get the X-10 WS467's to see (activate On/Off) when the assigned Insteon pad is pressed?  And, how do I assign each Insteon keypad (4) the designated X-10 WS467 unit code.  All House codes (at this point will be A) and with three controlled lights each of the three WS467 unit code is set to 14, 15, & 16.

Now all I have to do, is get the Insteon keypads to communicate with the X-10 WS467s

THANKS  Mrs. R A-W

I am not sure each button can be set to a different Unit Code.
Have you tried asking in the Smarthome Support Forums?
http://www.techmall.com/

If you have a X10 remote you would need a transceiver to convert the command to a power line signal. If you only need a controller to program the module. An X10 power line controller like a Maxi-Controller would work for all 16 unit codes. The Mini-Controllers only do Units 1-8.

I'd be GLAD to ask my question in Tech Support if I knew how.  Sorry

PLEASE advise how I can do so.  I'll gladly copy 'n paste there.

THANKS

Mrs. R A-W
Brian H   posted the link. It is a forum such as this  but for Smarthome products.
SmartHome forum (http://www.techmall.com/default.asp) requires you to register and log on before posting (Just like here)!
It is true there are users here that use a mix of different products  but as for setting up your  KeypadLinc Dimmer you will get a quicker answer there! >!

I have a mixed system myself. There are still some X10 goodies that are not in other protocols. Like the Chime Modules and Touchtone responders to name two.
Yes their phone support is reported as good.

I will post their wiki knowledgebase address later as I don't have it here.
You may find the answer bu just browsing their forums even if you didn't sign up.
Also on their web site is a Help Desk tab. Also a search function there.

Mrs RA-W

After looking at the Keypadlinc instructions, If you want to program scenes, ramp rates, etc for X10 in the Keypad Linc you will probably want to get a X10 "Maxi Controller" or a Smarthome "Control Linc Maxi" controller. Either of these can transmit ONLY a House Code/Unit Code without following it with a command code, the Keypad Linc uses this as a clear programming sequence.
An X10 RF (wireless) controller from X10 will not send only the HC/UC.
