Title: Video sender - amplifier suggestion
Post by: ttfnnow on March 05, 2009, 10:58:19 AM
Hi  just bought a video sender works pretty good.

One thing they should say prior to purchase is that this product may  experience interference if you have either 2.4 gig phones or router in use. I have multiple 2.4 gig phones in use and have no issue.

My Suggestion is their anyway an signal amplifier can be  built to amplify the signal? If you are in different rooms  you do not get a clear picture.    Example sender unit is in the family room and the receiver is in the basement.  result -  i am still not getting a clear picture choppy  Note I do get a clean picture when the units are in sight of each other -:) -:) -:)[/u] so based on that i am guessing the signal needs to be amplified a bit! ;) :D

X10 probably can not increase the transmit side power output because of FCC restrictions. However they could increase signal amplification in the receiver. Alas, that would require more expensive design and components.

I have play movies in the basement. I can resend those movies and watch them on the living (upstairs) TV. It's a great way to entertain kids and keep an eye on what they are watching. Yet I can switch channels and keep an eye on what I'd like to watch also.

I tend to aim the patch antenna to the corner of the room... not towards the other sender receiver unit. Not all "channels" seem to work well for me.. "Channel B" seems to have static. But normal transmission is like this video I took and posted on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2417eUMSpQ).

I might suggest that you do indeed have an issue.

Your other 2.4G devices are interfering with your video sender.  Yea, if your sender and receiver are close enough (in line of sight), they will overpower your other devices.  However, once you get the two far enough apart, the interference by your other 2.4G devices will start to get significant in respect to the sender's signal.

Yea, an amplifier would work in that it would allow your sender to overpower all your other devices, even between rooms/floors in your home.  IMHO, the better solution is to use unoccupied frequencies.
