Title: Cable Length and Signal Strength
Post by: LeeSteventon on September 15, 2009, 10:52:29 AM
Hi,

I am just planning my X10 setup and one of the areas I want to control is the outside lighting. I plan to control the outside lighting (and other appliances) using DIN rail modules. However, some of the lights I want to control can be up to 80 metres away. However, the DIN rail modules will be mounted in their housing and this housing will be less than a metre away from the power supplying them. In my calculations for X10 signal strength, do I use the "less than 1 metre" figure or the "up to 80 metres" figure? I know that the safe(ish) distance for carrying signals is around 80 metres(?) but in my scenario it seems that the signal is not being sent to the light, rather, the LD11 is controlling the on / Off Dim state.

Have I understood this correctly and can anyone help here?

Many thanks in advance!

Lee

You are correct in your accessment of the LD11, it is controlled by the X10 signal and only supplies power to the light.
