I just saw a light show demonstration that I didn't even think Insteon could do.
To accomplish this. All the message safe guards where turned off.
I understand it was twenty command a second.

WOW, very Impressive! ;)

Maybe one of the gurus can answer this:
Why just the serial PLM? Can not the USB PLM handle the speed, or is it a development issue?

Smarthome web pages show a data rate of 19,200KBS for both the 2412S serial and 2412U USB PLMs.
I believe the 2412U has a USB to serial chip on its Daughter Card. Maybe that slows things down. The 2412S has a simple MAX232 serial to logic level chip on its Daughter Card.
Also the USB version has been on the market for a short time and may need tweaking. I believe the USB also may have padding characters {Guess here as the older USB PLC was this way} for a fixed length message. The software was also developed before the USB PLM was released.
I have very little data on the new Dual Mesh 2413 PLM's. Other than they are a PLM with the functions of an Access Point added and have less link database space. The serial one also has no raw 12 volts out.

Thanks Brian.
I'd be all over that technology, if it would run on USB. I was having trouble figuring out why the serial would be faster than the USB and it looks like you've answered the pressing question once again.

I posted a question in the Smarthome Forums on using Light Show Master and the 2412U USB PLM.
I did see one other post where someone was using that combination and wanted the author to chime in.
I downloaded the Demo Version and found the Users Manual; as part of the install.
The older versions used the slow 2414U and 2414S PLC that had to run through the SDM3 [Smarthome Device Manager].
The new version runs through the PLM. Didn't specify if the USB one was OK.
It did indicate the PLM was much faster than the older PLC was and I know the older USB 2414U PLC was a dog when compared to the 2414S serial PLC. My serial one was at least 2 to 3 time faster than a USB one was.
I have an extra 2412S Serial PLM and may play around with it.

Right near my home there are approximately 15-20 homes that are controlled that way from one mans home. He also has the music going to a low power transmitter that can be heard on your FM radio from your warm car on cold holiday nights. All he asks for is a can food donation he takes to the local food pantry. I go at least 3-4 times during the holidays to watch and listen. It is truely amazing!
