Title: Email notification not working???
Post by: JJtech on February 25, 2010, 09:36:27 PM
I have tried 4 different email addresses including texting my phone, tried all 3 options under “transmission method,” tried sending pictures under RF commands and just a plain old “hi” email under advanced functions…NOTHING WORKED.  Any ideas???

Man I hate Vista. ::) :'
AHP version may be the issue too, but what have you tried besides the AHP settings?
Has it ever worked?
Are you running AHP as administrator?
Are your router setting correct?
Is your firewall allowing AHP net access?
Have you tried a third party software like PC Companion (http://www.angelfire.com/in2/ontkoi/X10AHP/PcCompanion.html) to send email? If so and it works then the issue is most likely your AHP version.

AHP 3.236 with Vista 32 SP2

Read Tuicemen's post first.  3.236 is a knownbuggy version of AHP.  To backdate AHP to a stable version, go to http://software.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/  and look for ahp_updt_204.exe.  Save that and apply it over what you have now, it will not damage any .ahx files you have.   When 3.204 is installed, open AHP and use the update link under Tools to update to 2.228.

Tuicemen,  I have made the allowance within Windows Firewall but I believe that is only for incoming.  I am running as the admin.  Router works fine for all other outgoing/incoming communications.  And yes, it did work maybe 8 months ago but with the same level of AHP.  As the video portion of AHP never worked properly (along with many other AHP areas), I stopped using it.  No I am just trying to send myself a simple email when I arm/disarm the house (just turning things off and on mostly).  No I haven't tried PC Companion.  I even tried X10 support (that worked well, NOT)!!!

Dan,  Will I lose anything by going back to that verison?

Thanks to both of you!

Your AHX files aren't version specific so they will still work with an earlier version but Back them up just in case. ;)
Sometimes just installing an earlier version directly over existing AHP works, without uninstalling.
In any case make sure you also have your registration keys backed up(written down) as well. ;)

I presume that means that I will have to reinstall all the plug-ins that I have purchased?  Last time I did that I had to reinstall the OS and everything else as I could not get the video to work while Windows Media Center was running.  Any other suggestions?

No.  You don't uninstall anything, 3.204 applies over AHP only, not any plug-ins.

Dan, So it is just one exe file that I overlay?  Do you think it will get me back into that conflict with WMC?

JJtech  is the x10 video capture configured in WMC?
No two programs can use the same capture device at the same time.
Trying to do so will lead to all kinds of issues. :(
leave the capture device disconected while installing AHP.

It's the Active Home Pro that you install 3.204 over 3.236. Nothing else, add-ons and .ahx files is affected.  Even the various directories in Windows are unaffected.

Tuicemen,  I have not configured WMC to capture video from X10.  How do you do that?  One of X10 many bugs is that when I record video, it does it in hundreds of 1 minute intervals!  Additionally I thought AHP requests you to plug in the capture device when it is installing?

Thanks to both of you.

I'm not sure even if it can be done or if windows auto selects it. I don't own Vista.

Do that in Windows Movie Maker (actually). Select the Digital Video Camera link.. and follow the prompts. See image below.
