Are there 240V versions (for Australia) of the X10 products?

Yes but not available from the X10 USA web site.
There are International X10 products from Europeian and Australian sites.
A Google Search should find them.
One is http://www.marmitek.com/
Another is http://www.x10europe.com/

We have Australian users here and I am sure they will give you added data.

thanks - looking forward to hear from anyone from Australia who has some recommendations (in particular any specific recommendations for a DS7000 equivalent kit - i.e. value for money, based on 240V)

I have been using and expanding my X10 home automation system for years.  The best place I have found for range and pricing in Australia is http://www.envioustechnology.com.au. I hope this helps anyone in Australia looking for X10.
