Title: 3 way wall switch question
Post by: reneco11 on September 10, 2010, 11:27:07 AM
Can I not use one of the wires and use it as a standard wall switch?
If so, does it matter wether it's the blue or red wire that I use?

You can use the master switch as a regular switch, but not the slave switch.

Does it matter which wire I eliminate? Blue or Red?

The red is the traveler wire. Just wire nut it so it doesn't touch any thing.

It does not matter both travelers act the same.  Make sure you tie the one you use to the common wire in the switch box that is no longer necessary.

Mello,
Reneco11 wants to use a X10 3-way switch in a two wire standard switch configuration. There would be no travellers in the 3-way sense.
I read the  September 10, 2010, 07:33:33 AM post as  reneco11 asking about the blue and red wire from the WS477 switch. Blue is output from triac and red serves as traveler to the slave switch.

Controlling a non 3-way fixture would only work with black and blue wires. Red wire should be insulated or could be cut off if the WS477 will never be used in a 3-way circuit in the future.

Oh! I did think he was talking about the field wires.  Thank you for the correction Dave.   Sorry If  I caused any grief.

My fault, sorry. I should have said the red wire from the switch acts as a traveler for 3-way installs in my September 10, 2010, 08:47:49 AM response.
