Title: Bunker Hill (Harbor Freight) motion detector mod
Post by: JMac on October 18, 2010, 06:34:10 PM
I modified a Bunker Hill (Harbor Freight) motion detector that will trigger a Power Flash module.  The Power Flash is set to Input A, and Mode 3 so that with a voltage input an X10 ON Command is sent to the “Set Address” (in this case C14).  C14 is both a switch and a macro programmed to do various things – lights, text message to cell phone, chime, etc.

The motion sensor was not modified in any way, only the motion detector receiver.  The receiver case was temporarily removed (six screws in the back of the case – two of which are in the battery compartment) and the wire to the horn was cut to allow the installation of a small switch (Radio Shack #275-0624) in the front of the case.  The added switch allows the horn to be turned off, but still allows the red led lights at the top of the case to illuminate, when motion is detected and transmitted to the receiving unit.  In addition, a length of two wire cord was soldered into the existing wiring to carry voltage input to the Power Flash module terminals.

This sensor has about a 50 foot range and the receiver at least 200 feet - the claim is 400 feet.  $13 at HF......

Helpful from me too!  I always thought about those motion sensors at HF!  I bought one of there pressure mats, planning on hooking it up to a DS10 one of these days.
