I'm using version 3.228. I'm trying to figure out if I should upgrade to a later version. I know that the last time I tried a later release it was buggy and unusable. What is considered to be the latest release that's stable enough to use?
-
Believe it or else, the ONLY the only version to avoid is 3.236. Everything else is fine. I'm running 3.271 with no plug-ins (Don't need them. and it's running fine all timers work as written and my single keypress macro runs correctly.
-
I must be one of the lucky ones.....3.236 is working fine for me with plug-ins..... ;D

3.294 created some bugs, every other recent build has been an improvement on the one before it. I recommend the latest release 296.

It didn't for me (no plug-ins), but as a clean install it may work fine.

Since it's been a while since I installed any AHP software, let me ask: should I uninstall the old version before I update? If I install the new updated version, will it automatically have the previous licence info?

Installing the latest version as an upgrade to what you currently have installed is supposed to carry over all your licenses, settings, timers, etc.
I think that uninstalling wipes all that out, so you might be better off doing the upgrade.
Some users have reported problems doing it as an upgrade, but it seems that many (most?) users, myself included, have not had those issues.

If everybody backed up their registration code(s) doing a full uninstall/reinstall is not a problem as a new install the first time has the registration info in the e-mail X10 sends. I don't use any plug-ins (don't need or want) but my registration code was backed up (even though the E-mail still exists in the X10 folder in Outlook).

I did it as an upgrade without uninstalling the old program and it worked fine for me.

Just to make it official, there is no need to uninstall before doing a new install.

Are you sure of that? I first got AHP in 2005 and every upgrade to it over the next 5 years was a mass of one version installed over another., so the upgrade to version 3.236 was unworkable, timers refused to run, so that's when I backdated to 3.204/3.228 I totally uninstalled AHP and the two folders it creates. When I installed 3.204 and immediately upgraded to 3.228 (that's the only way you get it) it ran fine.
So any time a new version comes out, I do the uninstall completely and the new version begins with new folders and they run fine.

My guess would be something became corrupt and the full removal and reinstall repaired that.
Normally, I do not fully uninstall and just run the newer installer without issue.
There have been several versions that had some bugs and this could make it look as though the upgrade caused the issue. (Which in a sense would have)
The latest 3.296 build seems to be working fairly well for me, so far. >!

Why are the buggy versions still available? I would think that x10 people would have removed them and only made available the most stable version? Or...???
-
It appears the ONLY buggy version is 3.203. All the rest are used by the X10 users.

why is it when i go to help and hit update my AHP says that 3.228 is the latest verion and there are no updates available ???? :(

The "check for update" feature hasn't worked since 3.228.
-
I presume you are not using any of the plug-ins. If 3.228 works for you, keep it.
-
Yes I have "Iwatchout" , "Myhouse online" , "On Alert" , and "Smart Macros" and they "seem" to work ok

It says that on all the builds so far. Just visit the Support site to download the later software.

Is it worth it to update, will i have problems with the update. The previous version kept crashing win xp, and i had read some where here in the forums to go back to the version i have now when that kept happening

There was one user (No need to mention his name) who widely reported problems with builds 3.236 and 3.271. His advice, based on his own experience, was to downgrade to 3.204, and then use the automatic upgrade feature to get to 3.228 (the only way to get 3.228 - it wasn't available as a separate download).
Other users reported good results with that suggestion.
However, after having other computer issues, and doing a complete uninstall and reinstall, he was able to get 3.271 (as I recall) working, and has reported that he is also running fine with 3.296, the latest build as of today. (I don't know if he tried each of the builds in between or not).
So, 3.236 might not be as buggy as originally thought, but perhaps it (and 3.271) were prone to issues if there were other undetected file problems on the system.
That user has said that for each upgrade, he does a full uninstall (backing up his AHX files first), and then a full reinstall, and has had no trouble. You may want to try that, as another option.

great. since update button doesn't work, we have to go to x10 software page and sift thru each update ourselves. OK. done. but I missed that new onalertmobile thing and installed it too. Now AHP won't just open cuz I dont have registration for it and it sticks at that screen and I have to close manually.
Two questions:
1) anyone know how to remove a module like this installed that I don't want w/o uninstalling ALL ahp and starting over? (not an option!)
2) since a module probably cannot be removed by itself as in #1, I'm stuck with it. Anyone willing to send me a reg code to make this stupic screen go away?
-
Find the file ahp_plugin.xml (it should be in C:\Program files\ActiveHome Pro - or wherever you installed it).
Open the file, and delete the appropriate line for the plugin you want to remove.
Then you should be able to restart AHP.
If you aren't sure which is the correct line, then try each line one at a time, changing the beginning part ("<plugin") to "<noplugin", and then trying again.
-
tnx. worked. still shows the mobile crap in 'about' screen on help but does not stop everything and ask for registration anymore.

And for everyone's future reference, starting with 3.296, you only have to download the main installer. It will update *all* the files it finds for your plug-ins.
The only time you would have to use an individual installer is if it's your first time installing a plug-in.
