Post by: Frank3d on November 27, 2010, 06:25:07 PM
Can anyone explain the difference between the Vanguard and Sentinel X10 cameras they both look exactly alike???
I was told there are better motors and gears in the Sentinel, is that a fact???

Your statement is obviously a well known fact. My specific question is what is the difference in THE CAMERAS THEMSELVES??????
I have several of each.

If you have several of each then your more qualified to answer your question then most users on the forum.
Unless someone has torn both apart then you'll have to take X10's word on what the difference is inside.
Why don't you put them threw a set of tests and post your results?
I know pan distances is different many because of the dome.

Tuicemen,
Thanks for your reply.
I have modified both of my Sentinel's Tilt limits per a post on this forum and added approx 10 degrees to the upper tilt limit. However I have not had any of my Vanguards apart to know the physical difference if any. The Sentinel uses two black plastic gears for the tilt function. I did not disassemble the base further to see the pan function gears.

Thanks for the link. I assume the internal parts are basically the same. One of the sales reps told me it had better gears that will not break but I don't think he knew for sure. I pushed him for an answer. My guess is the gears are the same el cheapo plastic ones. Why they don't spend an extra buck to make them alloy is beyond me. That would be the one thing that could make the camera so much better.

Your Welcome. X10 sales told me the same a while back. I had a Sentinel apart not to long ago to modify the Up tilt limit and the main half round gear for tilt is still plastic like the Vanguard's but I cant speak for the gears more internally off of the motor itself. If you get a chance please give me a helpful post rating. Have a good one. Thanks.
