Title: Universal module to control phone line during music lessons
Post by: 3eagles on April 04, 2011, 05:54:30 PM
Hi everyone
I am new to the forum and pretty new to X10, but already have had much fun with it

I would like some feedback on a plan I have in mind.
My wife teaches piano and is greatly annoyed by incessent phone ringing during the lesson times
we try silencing the phones. but then one has to remember to unsilence the ringer
or if the ringer in the piano studio is off, she can still hear the ringer..
add to misery we added a voice answering machine from radio shack.. ( the source in Canda) that has multiple mailboxes
uunfortunately, you cannot silence that..

My X10 plan is to move the answering device upstairs... where its quieter and can be lowered effectivly in volume
and I want to add a universal module to break the line to the phone base... this one base controls all the cordless phones in the house..
will this work ok if I just interupt one wire through the module?

if this works I can schedule the module for continuous contact and program the time into the Active Home?

YES!

I've been doing this for many many years.

A word of caution:  I'd at least leave a phone "hotwired" even with the ringer off in case of emergencies.  Hate to call 911 with a non working phone.

Awesome... thanks Knightrider.
and good advice... I actually have that trust dusty hardwired phone nearby..
power outages make the cordless sets useless in general.

great to know this idea has been tried and worked  -:)
