Title: wireless ?? is it really usable? MS13...
Post by: webrod on April 10, 2011, 01:13:32 PM
Hi,

I am new with X10.
I did buy a CM15Pro and a MS13 (sensor) and LM15 (to switch on a light), and a remote.
Just to test.

I am happy with sensor like LM15, because they use the power, not wireless.
But components using wireless like the MS13 does not look usable.

I installed the CM15Pro just beside the door of my house, and the sensor outside, juste beside the door.
There is around 1.5m between each of them, and this is the maximum!
If I move the sensor, they do not communicate anymore.
I tried to install the CM15PRO outside, in the garde, to test, but it was only possible at a distance of 15m (no power before).
It does not work!! While it is outside, no wall...
I tested the max outside, it's only around 10m

Do you use wireless component like the MS13? even outside? Are you happy?

I am also disappointed by the detection of this sensor, I have to be really close to it, like 3m, otherwise no detection. And I have to move a lot.
It's strange that you cannot set the level of detection.
Even my IP webcam is better in detection of movement, and I can set this level.

Maybe I should use the MS90? But can I use it without a security console? Can I build a senario with AHP?

Thanks a lot
Rod

The CM15A does not have a reputation for great RF reception distances.
Do a search here for antenna modifications and CM15A.

One easy thing to try. Get a piece of wire and wrap it around the plastic CM15A antenna and let it stick up about 18" above the tip.
See if it gets better.

You may also want to search for Passive Antennas some are placing above a motion sensor to also increase the reception distances.

The TM13 is the 220 volt  European version of our TM751. As far as I can tell.
Our new revision TM751s have a decent range.

Now that I see you are in a European Country. I am not sure your CM15Pro has the range issues ours have.
