Title: 3rd party security cam software?
Post by: vmiku914 on April 24, 2011, 02:01:31 PM
Hello all,

I have the VA12A and VA11A video adaptors with cameras and I keep getting DLL. error after recording. I have tried all 'fixes' mentioned on the forum and after calling tech support (not very helpful) and also tried two different XP machines and a vista machine (all newly formatted). Now I realize that in order to get the equipment to work I have to not use X10's faulty software.

Does anyone know of a 3rd party application that will work with the VA12A and VA11A video adaptors and be able to record?

Thank you.

You can try   http://www.blueirissoftware.com/  I use this and a couple of others with my va11.  It should work with  your va12.

Virtualy any video software will work with the VA11A
The issue isn't viewing but how do you plan to start/stop recording.
If your using X10 sensors then you'll need software which can see and act on those.
A little more info will go a long way in helping you find the right software.

I can't remember what sensors I have (eagle-eye comes to mind), however, I tried the Blue Iris software is works great! The software has it's own sensor and trips when there is movement detected in the picture, this ofcourse isn't perfect as it records static too. But overall after almost a week of tests I am quite happy with the product. I wish X10 learnt a bit from these guys.

Thanks!!

If you like Blue Iris and want to use it with your motion sensors, go to their forum.  Look for a program called "bicommand".  This is a command line program that you can use with AHP or iHouse or any HA software that can run a command line program.

This program can start recording, stop recording, change cameras, triggers and lots of other stuff.  I use my ms14's to trigger a bicommand to trigger my recordings.
