Title: Problems with MS10A and PS561
Post by: ldykler on June 04, 2011, 10:46:51 AM
Having trouble trying to set up PS561/DS7000 with 4 MS10A motion detectors (and one door switch). After programming, when I turn on the PS561, one of the motion detectors go off. If i cover any of them while keeping only one open, the open one triggers. If I cover them all, nothing goes off. I have these installed outside, covered, under a covered terrace and covered entrance.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

From your description everything sounds normal. What do you think isn't working correctly? BTW changing sunlight patterns can trigger a motion detector.

Are the MS10A's set to one or two detects for a trigger?

You are getting false triggers when no one is moving through the zone?

The MS10A has a lens in it that detects in a downward angle. How high off the ground are they?
I believe X10 says five to six feet high.
I also have not seen anything on externally mounting one on a home.

Tnx Brian, I had them set to 1 detect, so set them at 2. Working better now.
Now, they are outside (under covered roof), and seem to go off if someone is walking on the street quite far away. Has anyone used these outside without problems? I am also wondering if trees and leaves moving can trigger it.

Yes trees and leaves moving can trigger most X10 motion sensors. As can sudden temperature changes.
I have not seen anyone using a MS10A outside as it is mostly used inside a home.
Since its detection zone is on a downward angle. I guess it could be seeing fairly distant objects.
Hopeful someone that has one outside can assist you.

Thank you Brian, hope someone does have some answers for setting them outdoors...

Also remember when the consloe is Armed Home. Motion Sensors are ignored.
Most folks don't want their movements inside the home to trigger an alarm when they are home.
