Title: CM15A
Post by: Gismo on November 06, 2011, 08:42:54 AM
The ActiveHome Professional Computer Interface and USB Cable (CM15A) is out of stock.  Does anyone know if they are getting anymore?????
I can't get an answer from x10.
What is the "1 PC Transceiver + RF Transceiver (CM15K)" that the have listed with the ActiveHome Pro package now?? With this do i have to leave my computer on??
I want to add ActiveHome Pro & CM15A to my system.

The CM15K is a CM19A USB RF transceiver and a TM751 {I think it is the TM751 and not the RR501} RF to power line transceiver.
The CM19A can not receive any power line signals, store any timers or macros and needs the computer running AHP On 24/7.

No one knows if the CM15A will ever be available again except X10 and they are not saying.

Some independent X10 dealers still may have them but expect a higher price. Now that they are getting hard to find.

I just ordered one from Automated Outlet for the price of $88.18 ($79.68 and $8.50 shipping) so the X10 dealers are jacking the prices up.   I wanted another as my current CM15 is 6 years old, it still works fine but I want a spare.

Dan; That looks like the prices I was seeing on some independent X10 dealers web sites.

What independent X10 dealers?   Would you consider Automated Outlet as an independent dealer?

Yes I was calling any automation company that handles multiple protocols {ZWave, UPB, Insteon, X10}  an independent dealer.
I would also call Smarthome an independent dealer as they carry assorted protocol devices.

OK now someone from X10 (on the phone) told me the CM15A has been discontinued.

That might not be true, though. X10's phone people are wrong a decent percentage of the time. ;)

If I were a gambling man I would bet that the X10 rep is right this time.

Their Facebook rep said (once again) that the CM15A is NOT discontinued, it is just out of stock with no ETA yet.
I'm not sure what the difference really is when it comes to X10 - have we ever seen anything come back in stock (other than the Airpad - which they said from day 1 was a limited initial shipment)?

The supply of Maxi Controllers dried up last summer, but they are listed again by the major distributors.  Maybe the same thing will happen with the CM15A.

I saw the facebook remark.  All I can say is the person on the phone did not pause to think about it and just said it is discontinued.  Then said go to ebay before they are gone.

$0.02
That doesn't seem like a "thoughtless" statement from an employed insider....especially the latter part about going to Ebay.

Time will tell.

We shall wait and see.  I suspect the Chinese Factories will come alive again.

Perhaps, but will they be manufacturing X10 modules?

Most probably. Maybe this time X10 will have different part numbers for Soft-Start modules so the poor saps who buy them will know and not have to guess.

I think people in China are much more interested in manufacturing ipads, smartphones, weapon parts (http://news.yahoo.com/officials-fake-weapons-parts-ticking-time-bomb-184240411.html), and our next generation of foreign made automobiles. The people of China have decided they want cars and bathrooms.... instead of bicycles and community running water areas. Not a lot of money to be made in cheap limited run gadgets.

Until the State Department awards "most favored nation" or some other tariff exempt status for cheap electronic products to some other back water nation (yet... with a educated work force). We might have a shortage of cheap gadgets.

But if you haven't noticed.... the State Department (the current administration) isn't real interested in trade. 15 trade bills passed the house and laid on the Presidents desk for a year and a half (until just recently). I don't expect to see any changes for several months yet. In the new era of enviromentalism... consumer goods are just like scars on the surface of our beloved planet.
