Title: External USB Hard Drive and Jump Drive Support?
Post by: daldude on March 31, 2012, 01:47:05 PM
Do either or both the AirpadXL and Airpad7p support the reading of external USB Hard drives and Jump Drives (Flash Drives) if hooked to the USB Port? The XL has a standard USB Port and the 7p has a mini USB Port but I assume it comes with an adapter.
I know they both support USB Keyboards and Mice because it say so on the Webpage but what about USB Hard Drives and Jump Drives?

Thanks  :)

The XL does support jump drives in the usb port...(I just plugged mine in) so i would bet it would support external usb drives as well.  I have tried a wireless mouse in the OTG port.. I am still looking for old keyboard to try in the usb port but think i will just use wireless.
wireless mouse just plugged into usb port and it works fine.

Yes, my 7p came with two adapters for the USB, one that a thumb drive can attach to (female) and one that you can use to plug into the USB port of your computer (male).  The HDMI cable was $10 when I bought mine. (I heard you can get one cheaper. And that if I'd waited I could have it included free.)  I attached a mini-USB Hub (unpowered) and that worked too, as did a keyboard and mouse.

Now I just need some sort of stand so I can see the screen better when typing. :)

As far as a keyboard; I got this off ebay and have been using it for about 3 months now and it works great.  10.1"leather tablet case with usb keyboard.

Also verified that my mouse, 350gb external hard drive, 16gb flash drive, and usb joystick works perfect with ics.  Not sure about 2.3.4 though.

When I plug my 7P into my windoz visa laptop, it charges the battery, but does not assign the tablet a drive letter. I want to transfer a file to the 7P.

This is direct from the manual. Hope it helps:

Transferring files from your PC
You will need the included USB A to Mini-B cable to do this:
1. Connect the cable to your PC and to the AirPad.
2. Hold the AirPad in a horizontal orientation. You will see a
USB symbol in the notification bar at the bottom right of
your AirPad’s screen.
3. Touch the USB symbol and drag it up to bring up the
notification menu.
4. Touch USB Connected.
5. In the window that appears, touch the Turn On USB storage
button.
Your AirPad will now appear as two different Removable Storage
Devices in “My Computer” on your PC - one for the main device
memory, and one for the MicroSD card.
Transfer files like you would transfer from any drive to another.
Once you are finished transferring files, follow these steps:
1. Click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your PC’s System
Tray, next to the clock. Click on Eject, or Safely Remove USB
Mass Storage Device.
2. On your AirPad, touch Turn off USB storage.
