Title: News on Micro SD Cards (TF) for the Airpad XL Class 4 vs 10
Post by: Jimdi on April 19, 2012, 08:47:13 AM
I did a little experimenting and thought I would pass along my "results"
I bought a PNY 32Gig Class 4 memory card for my Airpad - It benchmarks out on my PC at 4.5 megs per second - but it benchmarks out on the Airpad at 6.5 mps. (nice)

I then upgraded to a 32 gig Class 10 Lexar High Speed Micro SD card for Tablets - which benchmarks on my pc at 10 mps, but at ONLY 5-6.5mps on the Airpad!

So what does this tell me?  Since the cards are performing to spec on my laptop - I would say that the Airpads External TF slot is not capable of speeds much greater than 6-6.5mps.

So save your money - don't waste it on a class 10.

FYI - Class and then # = #mps.
-- So class 4 is rated at 4mps, 6 = 6mps, 10=10mps

These are all "Write speeds" as read speeds are always much faster.

As far as in your hand performance - I ddon't notice a difference between the 2 cards on read-write operations like copying files.---
Post your own results please

On that note:  one further question -

the XL lists "sdcard" as if there is an actual SD card in the unit of 5 gig,

and Extern_SD which is the card you slide in from the side.

Is there actuall a regular Micro SD card sitting in a slot INSIDE the XL pad?

Can that be swapped out for a faster larger one?

Just curious.

There is an internal 6gb flash drive.  During the firmware installation it is partitioned into a 1gb drive for storing apps and 5gb for additional storage and to move apps to.  This is why when you load a new firmware you lose your apps and data.
