Title: Airpad 7p/google woking perfectly
Post by: ghostj61 on April 20, 2012, 09:51:55 PM
Go to this website "http://en.ployer.cn/support.php" and download the update tool+instructions if you don't have it already. as well as this one MOMO9C Android 4.0 firmware 20120407_PLOYER LOGO, as this is what the airpad actually is. Be smart and follow the directions and you will have ICS 4.03 with all google services. This is a new update posted yesterday and worked flawless for me on the first try. Backing up should always come first.
Everything will at first be all in chines, no need to worry. Just change the language in settings. And some of the bloatware is also in chines. I personally didn't keep any of them. Use a root uninstaller to get rid of them.

My Airpad out of the box from X10 had ics 4.03 on it. No google of course. Got that working and was pleased. That said I would never go back. Not only does 100 percent of google work, the Airpad runs much faster, and the battery life jumped up more than 50 percent. Not to mention Skype video calls are perfectly clear on both ends. Flash 11.1 working. I couldn't tell you if netflix works better as I don't use it.

Thanks for the tips!

1)  WOW that website is slow, took me multiple times to try to download the files, but, nice find.
2)  For other's doing this, didn't work first time for me, I needed to rename the .img file, I took out the funny characters at the front, made sure .img was the extension, and then it worked.

Google play works now, and I've got the tablet downloaded most of my normal android apps (I've ... a few google devices :) )

3)  There are still lots of Asian characters still all over the device, on the background screen and some of the menus.  I HAVE changed language and keyboard to english.  Under the language settings, there is a japanese ime, and then two menu choices I can't read.

Anyone know how to set this device to stock ICS?

Thanks!

Hey I'm glad it worked for you.  With the root access you have,  you can change the boot graphics to anything of your choosing. I use a Picture of my kids. Everything else Asian wise can also be removed. I did it all With root uninstaller ,root explorer, and my favorite is super manager. That ones nice cause you can set the mode to read/write or read only. That said if your not the root informed as I wasn't, look for the app all about root. So after reprogramming, I can finally say I am a satisfied owner of an Airpad. Still not a fan of x10s employees. Their rude, inconsistent, and dismissive.

I went to the PLOYER site and downloaded the files, as instructed. I have tried the holding volume button down and pushing the on/off button 10 times. I have done this at least 15 times. Each time, when I get to about push #8, the tablet turns on, just as the usb connection is made. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, That worked and I now have access to Google Play, which was my goal. Now if I could get words with friends free to work, I'd be thrilled. Actually, the problem I was having with the down load was that I didn't have the device turned all the way off. Thanks again for your help.

I was able to perform this upgrade, and now I have access to the Google Aps mart, to my Google calendar and many other aps. There are some drawbacks. All of my previously loaded aps disappeared from my system, though things stored on my external SD card were untouched. Anyone thinking about doing this should definitely back up everything. The system seems to run more slowly than before. Many aps stall. When performing the upgrade, there is a point in the installation where the system warns you that if you pick "Yes" you will get a "file missing" message. Do not pay any attention. Pick "Yes" for the advanced install. The system defaults to Chinese. Unless you read Chinese, getting the system back to displaying some other language is a challenge. Go by the icons on the system menu and eventually you will find the language menu. Better yet, check out the systems menu and memorize or note the position for the language change before you do the upgrade. The systems menu is the same. It is completely bizarre that X10 neglected to include Google compatibility when selling this tablet, and it is equally puzzling why it was so difficult to ferret out this fix. Since the Google compatibility was a free system upgrade, this seems like a purposeful dumbing down of the OS. Despite many emails to X10, no one ever told me about this fix. Thanks to the community for help with this.

Specifically thanks to ghostj61 for this information. One more point, as someone else pointed out, when you download and run the LiveSuit software and the upgrade, you will find an .img file with two Chinese characters as part of the file name. In the upgrade software when you "select the .img file" the Chinese characters are not recognized by the upgrade program. They show up as ?? and the program will not load. Simply rename the .img file on your computer by eliminating the two Chinese characters, and the program will load without difficulty.

Hey ghost 61 the image you suggested was Momo9c with the last digits of 407 is there any reason not to go to Momo11?
Am also trying to get my Airpad 7P to be able to get Google play and Google books.
