Title: referb 7
Post by: idbl_fanatic on July 10, 2012, 03:56:41 PM
Well................I can say that I am more than dissatisfied with this product, I have had it for less than 4 hrs, first off, I was under the impression that I was getting a 7P, not the 7, so that I would have full access to the market, and ICS. I didn't even know that there was a lower model. second, the darn screen has started acting up, it will go 1/2 white, and then the whole thing will go white, I have to push the power button off and on, then it will come back on.

Since they must be gone now.
I could not look at the sales page to see what it said.

I believe the original 7" was called a plain Airpad.
Here is a wiki entry of the models.

Thanks, but that doesn't really help me

True it will not help. Would just verify my thoughts that it said 7P.

None of the Airpads with the x10 rom have google play installed.
You either have to install a different Rom or follow instructions posted on my site to get google play/market.
since you have the original airpad you could install rom 002 which had market and is rooted or 001 which is not.
Instructions for this are also on my site.
You may wish to install one of those old roms to see if it fixes your display issues. You can always revert back to 004 rom if that doesn't work.

Cool, I will give that a try, but I can't find the links on your site

Sorry to hear about your problems.  I dug up the old link to sales page: http://www.x10.com/promotions/airpad_7_inch_android_tablet_79.html?SN (http://www.x10.com/promotions/airpad_7_inch_android_tablet_79.html?SN)  to the $79 tablet which does not include shipping.   When I first saw promotion weeks ago I noticed it had the RockChip 2918, I figured most people looking at the surface would not realize that this was the original Airpad.  Looks like these tablets with RockChip 2918 chipset will have limited future ever since the AllWinner A10/A13 is came to scene last fall.  The AllWinner A10/A13 (is superior and significantly cheaper than the RockChip 2918), which means the low end manufacturers would rather develop tablets using this chipset and thus are focusing their R and D efforts behind.  This may change when the dual core chipsets hit the market.

I would try to RMA it and see if they will pay for return shipping.

Yes, I just emailed them about a return, still waiting.

If you told Customer Service you want to return because you have a 7 but you thought you would get a 7P, yeah, that sale is probably final because the fault is at your end.

But if you told CS the screen goes white and the USB connector does not work, then the fault is at the X10 end because the unit is not "refurbished" per the ad description "And don't worry, our refurbished tablets are good as new. All tablets are tested, certified and come with a 30-Day Exchange Policy that guarantees everything is in perfect working condition."

Call and speak to technical support about the screen and USB port and see if they will do an RMA for you.

The tablet cannot be returned for a refund, but it still does have a warranty and your unit does have a problem. Please send me a PM or email with your order number and I will have an RA created.

Maybe you can try another X10 rep or post your issue on facebook.  Or else its a painful lesson to keep in mind the next time you order from X10 if ever.

I also got the $79 +~$10 shipping X10 refurb.  I recommend you play with the screen timeout settings (and other settings) before giving up on it.  another thing is the battery problem.  This has been noted before on other forums.  If you have the unit powered off and charge it, it appears to charge relatively fast and then start to discharge.  I finally got past that by charging it while it is turned on.  Battery life is not great but for $90 what do you expect.  I have gotten Amazon appstore up, runs fine, installed Kindle reader and downloaded free Tom Sawyer to check it out.  Works fine.  So far no real problems and I am really impressed with what it can do.  I got email set up with help from the cable company tech support.  I get on the net via wi-fi with no problems either.  Only hassle I have is my fingers often cover too much area.  Any positive experience with a reasonably priced stylus, anyone?  Overall, I am pretty happy with it.

My 12 year old saved for his airpad and it quit working.  We sent it back and they sent another but it doesn't work either.  He is so disappointed.
Now when you touch the back of the Airpad, it thinks you touched the front and opens things and closes them.  Very frustrating for him and for me as his father.  Making me rethink x 10 products although I have 2 security systems that I use and like a lot.
