Title: Remote chime enhancement
Post by: LSun on September 03, 2012, 05:29:43 AM
Other members have posted enhancement suggestions for the remote chime module, but here is an idea that is easy for X10 engineers to implement and would yield the same benefits: Play a different tune for each of the 16 possible unit numbers, so that there can be buttons or sensors in multiple zones, and the user could tell them apart from their respective tunes.  In contrast to offering user programmability, this enhancement would not require additional user interface - the existing unit code selector would also select the tunes.  The product can be used exactly the same way as before.  It may even be the case that this can be implemented by software modification alone!

Until X10 comes through with implementing this idea, does anyone have information on reprogramming the SC546A's internal EPROM module (assuming it is accessible) to play a different sequence of notes?

That's a really awesome idea. It would be very helpful for troubleshooting!

I don't think the controller IC in the SC546 can be reprogrammed.
Can't say about present Date Code units as X10 may have changed designs recently as the older parts where getting scarce and we are never given any updated hardware information.
