Title: ip cameras range extender
Post by: carlanga88 on November 19, 2012, 12:57:43 PM
I am working on access control job which requires Ethernet to be sent for long distances.
Currently there is a lot of UTP cable installed in the facilities. I am looking for systems
that will allow me to put the Ethernet over long runs of UTP cable. Some of the runs are over
1000 feet long. Can anybody suggest a product for this ??

carlanga88,

I am not a networking expert, but I believe that Ethernet has a maximum distance of 100M (328FT). If you need to go a longer distance, then you will need to put a repeater (such as a network hub) every 328 feet.

And, you probably should be looking at fiber optics both for distance and immunity from lightning.

You may want to do a search with your favorite Search Engine.
I found a few by searching for ethernet extenders.
A few of them could do greater than 2000'
Though I have no data on how they actually work in the real time world.
Also not especially cheap.
