I have the newer interconnected smoke alarms in my home. Referance their operation here: http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-improvement/household-safety/fire/question576.htm
I'm planning to place one of my X10 UM506 Univeral Modules inline using the red wire from the smoke alarms and then set up a macro to notify me of any smoke or fire alarm activation.
This sounds too easy, but I think it will work. I could have X10 text me, sound an alert through BVC, turn on all lights, etc.
Let me know what you think, additional ideas and so on.

X10 UM506; X10Pro PUM01 is a low voltage dry contact switch.
Exactly what are you going to try and switch?

Maybe you are thinking of the X10 PF284; X10Pro PSC01 Powerflash Module. Triggered by the nine volts?
http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/psc01.pdf
You would have to verify that the nine volts is not referenced to the power line input. As it could referenced to either the Line or the Neutral power connections.
I know Kidde makes a SM120X interface that takes the trigger signal and can then close a dry contact relay to trigger other devices. With their wired Smoke Detectors. The SM120X Installation Manual appears to show in its case. The nine volts appears between the Neutral {Blue} and Interconnect {Red} wires.

Knightrider's Smoke Detector (http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=14772.msg82300#msg82300). Knightrider has a macro part 2 (http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=17225.msg94825#msg94825) as well.

I was confused on the module. The idea is to use the power flash module to detect the 9v pulse sent by an activated smoke alarm which would then trigger a macro alerting me of the alarm.

The PSC01 specs say it can be triggered by 6v. I looked at Knightriders sytem which is very impressive but I don't think mine will need to be that complicated. My smoke alarms are the newer type and are already interconnected via a trigger wire. My idea is to simply use the trigger wire to activate a PSC01 in the event of smoke alarm activation.
Everyone think my idea over and tell me if I'm missing anything. Thanks!

Possible shock potential if you are a sloppy wiring person.
The 9 volts is referenced to either Neutral {Most Likely} or the Line.
So the exposed Input Terminals would be connected to Trigger and Neutral wires.
