Title: Attention Early Adopters
Post by: Tuicemen on July 28, 2015, 11:48:20 AM
Authinx has some new hardware they are working on.
This includes the new Wi-Fi unit.
(more on that in it's thread) (http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=28628.0)
All the newer devices have AGC  for better PLC.
The hold up with releasing these to the market is Authinx's quality standard and convincing the China manufacture that Better doesn't mean cheaper.
That point seems to have finally gotten across. :)%

Authinx is concerned with the end users opinion of the company something the old X10WTI didn't seem to be worried about.
Parts need to be purchased in large quantities in order to help keep price down. However these may not always be the best and it is only with feed back that the process for getting something better can begin.
Quality devices can be made without costing a arm and a leg and Authinx is committed to doing that they just don't wish the initial release to be junk.

This poll is  for my benefit though I may pass the results on to Authinx if I feel it will help with new products release times.

X10WTI gave many users a bad opinion of the X10 line of modules.
I am not too sure the opinions maybe changed to more favorable ones easily.
I am still seeing threads on general automation forums. Recommending new users stay away from X10 as it is dieing or poor quality.

I too have seen similar threads. :(
So far from what I've seen, the quality is improving and management is listening to input.
However there is always room for improvement especially as newer electronics and manufacturing emerge.
The Pro line always did have higher standards however with the old X10WTI definition of better meaning cheaper all X10 modules suffered.

I think the X10 brand is irrevocably damaged and, so far, the new products (RF & PLC repeaters) are in the rather goofy style we have become accustomed to.

However, there is one simple thing they could do that might revive the brand and result in millions in sales. Replace the CM15A MCU with an Atmel ATmega328 + CH340G (USB-Serial chip ) + a larger EEPROM. This would allow all the Arduino acolytes to create programs for it, leaving Authinx to supply the hardware.

I also believe a revamped CM15 would help the brand.
As its flaws perhaps contributed to X10 WTI going bye bye.
Since Authinx has stated they are improving all modules as their current stock runs low, I have expressed ideas to the owner on CM15 improvements before,  perhaps we'll see something new on that front. However I've not heard anything as yet.

Authinx does have plans to improve the CM15A.
However they wish to have a new version of AHP created first since getting the current version working with the servers is proving to be a no go.
They have asked me to put the word out that they are looking for someone to undertake this task See: C++ developers (AHP rewrite) (http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=29218.0)
