Installing WS13A / XPS4 X10 switch in place of simple switch
Wired as instructions show -- click click of relay light doesn't go ON / OFF
used WS13A and XPS4 incandescent light
What am I doing wrong?

In your diagram you show the white wire as being the line and load in the existing (working?)
Have you used the manual ?

I don't understand
In Diagram
A = Neutral Feed (white)
B = Hot Feed (Black)
C & D to light (load) (across load) incandescent light
B connected to C (hot connected together to load)
A and D between switch (close switch -- connect neutral from load)
The XPS4 looks like diagram with a row of
connection screws
as shown
Control (this for 3 way switch)
Load
Neutral
Line (Hot)

Your existing diagram looks unusual.
Please verify the Line and Neutral are on the cable labeled Power in your diagram. Also please verify Black is Line and White is Neutral in your power feed. Your diagram shows white being switched and this is NOT the normal way things are wired.
OK Try this. As long as you have verified the Black is Line and the White is Neutral from the Power Cable.
Neutral on A and D
Line on B
Load on C

Attached is the correct wiring practice
-
Wired up as you suggested
Works (I guess you really can't use instructions)
BUT
doesn't respond to remote commands
X10 receiver plugged into same circuit as new X10 switch (A2)
I can command A1 (the receiver relay) ON/OFF
ON/OFF to A2 does NOTHING

The transceiver is most likely a X10 TM751 or X10Pro PAT02?
Its internal switch works with the remotes A1 command but the remotes A2 does not control the XPS13A.
The transceiver is directly controlled by the remotes RF commands.
The WS13A has to be controlled by the transceiver sending a power line command to the WS13A from the received RF command from the remote..
You have verified the same circuit turning off the breaker. Both the transceiver and WS13A stop working?
You could have a power line signal noise maker or signal sucker. Are there any electronic devices on the same circuit?
If you can turn it On but not Off. Then the load maybe making power line noise or signal sucking.
We occasionally see the House Code and Unit Code Dials get dirty. You may want to try rotating both the House Code and Unit Code dials a few times and see if things change.
You may want to look at Jeff's great tutorials on X10 troubleshooting.

I am using TM741 receiver
with HR12A Remote control
which controls X10 devices thru-out my house
from end to end about 75ft
no phase problems yet -- I have a bridge (which I had to use in old house)
-- in one of the moving boxes
The new WS13A is about 12ft from a TM741
on the same copper.
Tried to command it with HR12A and SS13A
thru two different TM741s --- with no reaction of WS13A
Should active LED on WS13A be Red or Green?
???

All the active LEDs I have see are Red and light when the load is On.
I don't know if the latest production ones may have a different color active LED.
I also don't have much information on the X10Pro XPS4 that is the updated X10Pro XPS3 model of the X10 WS13A.
If you are using the XPS4 manual it maybe giving you different data then the XPS3/WS13A.

Tuicemen's review of the brand new XPS4. Indicates it has a light blue LED but I don't think the older XPS3/WS13A would have a blue LED but maybe.

The XPS3 I have has a red LED however it is the prototype for the XPS4
So the way it works may not be the same as the older version and ws13a
The LED is on when the light is off, and off when the light is on.

I saw the night light feature listed on the XPS4 web page. LED On when the switch is Off makes sense. So you can find it in a dark room.
My older XPS3 looks like it has a neon bulb behind a red plastic lens and lights when the switch is On.

Maybe PLC receiver in WS13 is bad. Are you sure you do not have some type of noise source on that line. And are you sure it is "the same copper"? It is unusual to see lighting and outlets on the same breaker (at least it is where I live).

That is basically the way my home is also.
Lights and outlets are on a few different breakers. So if you trip one breaker, the whole room is not dark and some outlets are working.
