This is a futuristic pipe dream IMHO. Integration of electronic interface to human neurology is being done, but requires suppression of the immune system, otherwise the body tries to reject the foreign body. This is farther away than "3 or 4 years"

It is defiantly NOT a pipe dream... many new devices are aiding the otherwise disabled today... some military vets.

How long will it take to get from here to there.... is anybody's guess. Lots of time delaying government regulations have already been dismissed... along with the "medical device taxes" (thank God).

I used to work within sight of where the Wright-brothers built a barn for their Aeroplane (aka heavier than air aircraft). The barn and their catapult has been re-built now. I regularly ride my bicycle past two homes that were once owned by the brothers. The one they owned when they were making bicycles... still has the porch they added to the house. The brick paved street (not far from there) is the actual bricks that were there then too. I am sure... the Wright Brothers and I have ridden bicycles on the same bricks.

3 or 4 years... not likely! Historically speaking.... it will only take till tomorrow.

Yes but the new devices are sensing nerve impulses through the skin and skull. Not biologically fused to nerves which is where Musk is extoling. They have been sticking electrodes in rats and monkeys for thirty years, but the neither lives long afterwards. I am waiting to see how successful this crazy Italian neuro surgeon that wants to transplant a head next year, is.

Did you work at Wright Pat AFB?

I may have missed it but don't recall seeing anything about immune suppression with deep-brain implants for Parkinson's patients.

And, all of us geezers are anxiously watching the neurosurgeon's progress (while keeping an eye out for suitable donor bodies and stylish turtlenecks to hide the scar).

I worked for the government. And last I heard (I should have mentioned) was the government had concluded that we were experiencing a generational change. That the doldrums created by anti-technology luddites could not be trained or regulated away. That society in general would just have to wait until a generation died-off.... to continue with progress.

I didn't agree... or like... that conclusion.

I had looked through my pictures... and couldn't locate the one I had of my playing a mind-control game.

There are two different brands on the market (or was) Bill (of BVC fame) had started experimenting with the devices before he slipped away from the forums. I found and bought one.... so as to play along. It/they are simple enough games floating balls via a motor-speed control (via thought control). There are also toy helicopters and such as well. I would NOT think an under-the-skin sensor would require much sophistication if this technology was to go mainstream useful.

Here is a online pic similar to what I have of me playing:

I have been to the museum a couple of times. Wow, what an incredible place.

I had the opportunity to walk underneath the one remaining XB-70 Valkyrie that was in the parking lot years ago.  It is an awesome airplane.  The last time we were there it had been moved across the field so visitors couldn't see it up close anymore.  But the Wright Pat museum is even better than the Boeing museum located just south of Seattle.

None of the displays are static. Beside enormous and continuous growth... the displays are regularly changed.

Thanks! I did not know that. we are only three hours from Dayton, but have not been back to WP in more than 15 years because we figured we would be seeing essentially same displays. Must make a trip east.

Apologies to dhouston for dragging this topic off course.

They've added two enormous buildings to the museum since back then.
