Hi,
My SC1200 chime went from crystal clear to very fuzzy and distorted sounding. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Have you noticed any other things?
Like display weak or flickering?
Playing back the answer message also garbled?

Hi Brian,
when I play the message I hear a constant, low level hum/tone in the background (the hum/tone is approximately 1/2 - 3/4 the volume of the words) which is not part of the recorded message itself (I re-recorded the message to check this). I suppose that if the hum/tone is present whenever the speaker is activated, it could be the distortion I am hearing in the chime (but the chime seems quite a bit more distorted than the message).
Other than that, everything seems normal. The chime distortion began suddenly with no apparent event. I had this happen a few years ago and it cleared itself up after about a week but it is quite annoying. I don't want to reset the unit as that would entail re-registering everything, etc.

If it is a 60 or 120 cycle HUM.
It could be the power supply.
Simple thing to try for a bad connection.
Disconnect the wall wart from the outlet. With backup batteries installed.
Then unplug and reconnect the power supply to the SC1200.
Plug the wall wart back in and test.
If the socket had a poor connection. Removing and reconnecting the supply to its connector. May clear things up.

Sorry to be so long getting back to this... the aberrant sound stopped on its own before I had a chance to try some of the suggestions. Next time it starts again I will try to record it and report back. Thanks for your help Brian.
