Title: Welcome to the WIFi module section!
Post by: Tuicemen on January 17, 2018, 09:31:18 AM
The WIFI apps are now available on the respective stores though you can't do much with out the module (WM100)
Users that opted in for the WIFI insider deal will get first crack at these and I'll be sending out a direct link for purchasing.
Hopefully before days end. :)%
A link to the Manual can be found in the help section of this board which should also be available before days end.
Others will have to wait till Monday Jan 22nd these are of limited supply but the owner has assured me if these sell out quickly he'll fly in another shipment.

Authinx has requested I post the link to the early bird purchase page on the forum so every one can see the benefit of visiting the forum.
So I will do that later today as I wish to give current forum members the benefit of being a member.
If you missed the insider deal post opportunity and would like the chance to snag one of these early PM me and I'll send you the link. ;)
This may make me busy today but I don't mind.( AT LEAST NOT YET)  rofl

I'm told a second shipment should be arriving next week so if the unit is out of stock it shouldn't be for long before the supply is there again.

FWIW, First go at the manual link didn't work (earlier that day); later in the afternoon the link did work, as published :), and while on the X10 website it show the WM100 as being available for purchase.  Needless to say I cart-ed one up, made the purchase and today (the following day) I have received a shipping notice w/tracking info.

I can't wait to get in and being to play with it thru an Ipad/Android.  Now if only someone would begin to work that Alexa skill....  8)

The developer is to look at an Alexa skill first then Google. Adds for the WM100 and app are to be worked on inorder of demand first. For this reason go to the wish list and vote for every thing you wish to be looked at.
I or one of the COs will remove wished adds as they are implemented, placing them in an implemented child section.

Is this the $99 deal?

To be honest I have no idea if $99 is a limited time offer.
The sales page states it is a sale price.

Looking at the "guts", that price is not surprising.

So are you saying the parts are of good quality?
I've not opened one up to have a look, not that I would know the difference. ::) :'

STM32F103RCT6
That datasheet doesn't indicate any WiFi capabilities so there must be another IC for that.

The RF link is a separate 18-pin device - possibly a custom hybrid - on the same daughter board.  The label says WM100.

I ordered my WM 100 yesterday, I have had x-10 devices for years and am glad to hear that I will be able to control them beyond the controller. Can we use the app on our smart phone from anywhere? Probably a dumb question but I'm not sure and my hub will be here tomorrow, I hope.

......... Can we use the app on our smart phone from anywhere?.....

I tested my app on my iPhone from a traffic light the other night. When I got home... the lights I turned on.... were ON.

My order is still on its way, but I managed to pseudo "install" the Android app by scanning the QR code on the main X10 page. Still pretty useless but now I have a better understanding of the app layout  :)

My unit was shipped USPS, which is fine with me, it will be handed to Canada Post, and the most I will be charged is sales tax. A lot less than the default "Corporate tax" that other carriers disguise as "Customs Clearance Fees"  >*<

And.... a great solution for anyone who loses their sheet that came with the unit. The manual may always be around.

You will have to revert to factory and scan the QR code of your module when it arrives as each is unique  and for the specific module.
With that in mind don't install all your modules as you'll only need to do it over.

Received my Hub last night, and within 10 minutes I had my Ipad and my Android phone running the app. Everything was so easy to set up and create timers and add modules. It operated perfectly and so quickly. As I pulled into work my outside lights on a timer shut off and it showed it on my phone. Conned to wifi at work it operated everything at home as I hoped it would. Wow what a win this hub is for me. as I have so many X-10 devices. Perfect replacement to the CM15a.

                                                                                    I'm so happy

Even though I had the menus, I could not of course install devices and rooms and such, since the setup is stored in the WM-100. But that let me have a pretty good idea of the options available. I just reset the app to factory settings when the WM-100 arrived.
It just came in this afternoon. I gave it some time to acclimate inside (it is a frisky -9°C outside), installation was a breeze.I installed the latest firmware and I was good to go.
I had some apprehension about X10 signal strength, but even though I have the WM-100 controller plugged in the same power bar as my computer, I was able to control devices trough the house. I will see how my setup with timers and dawn/dusk goes through the next 24 hours.

Hate to tell you, but you can't buy a used CM15A off eBay for under $50.  I too miss the days of the 10-modules-for-$50 specials, but X10 stuff ain't that cheap anymore, and this new device is well worth more than $50.

There is someone with the old X10 "good means cheap" mentality.

Yeah.... there was a time. On it's way down... the original X10 really slashed prices. I remember buying stuff I thought I might never need.... simply because it drove down the "per-unit price" of X10 items. Everyone loves a bargain.

There were even better bargains to be had as IBM, RCA, et al were desperately emptying their warehouses of X10 hardware to avoid any further association with them and their X-rated ads. I paid $5 for a kit that included the IBM version of a CM11A, an RR501, a Palmpad and a lamp module, IIRC.

I ordered my WM 100 yesterday. I've been buying X10 products since the early 90s I have some wall switches connected yet but I have boxes of new stuff unopened that I picked up on the bargain sales in hopes of a new technology to control them so I'll be revisiting the x10 experience. #:) :)% . Now I just hope they got Alexa working with this WM100 not that I have to buy another one in six months or so

An Alexa skill is one of the first things the developer is to look at once all the bugs are worked out of the current App. You will not need another newer WM100 for that. >!

The new WM100 has turned out to be a rock-solid device. Only a very fractional few defects... not bad for a first run.... all quickly replaced.

I really like mine... and it's WAF (Wife Approval Factor) around here. For the very first time in many years.... my wife feels she has complete control of the home lighting. Right now I am using another product to control my X10 using Amazon's Alexa (mostly through routines). I think when this simple easy to setup WM100 gets a published "skill" and can also make peoples X10 controllable by Alexa (and google).... this will be totally awesome.

The future is so bright. We're going top need sunglasses.

When I met my wife and we got an apartment, I set up a few switches and modules and had a PP a mini controller by the bed....she thought I was a nut and a geek....

Now, twenty some years later, she complains if the lights aren't on by sunset and she has a mini controller by HER side of the bed to turn off all the lights if any are on by the time I retire....

Easy convert she was...

I never game up on x10. I was starting to doubt a bit before the wm100 really became real. I know many moved on to IP cameras and the like. I too use IP cameras; however, I never removed my venerable X2cams. I hoped for the day when I could use them again (I see lots of them being sold on ebay, and other places). I could always use them in the home environment, but I could not control switching between them, while away from home. I really love these small, functional cameras.
I had them hooked through what's called a web box, that allowed me to view then, on a computer while away from home; however, I could not switch between them. In walks the wn100; now I can switch between the cameras and turn on and off lights, and see what' going on in the house.
My next challenge is be able to have this same control using my smart phone. There are no issues controlling my IP cameras via the wm100; I want to do the same, with the smat phone for my x2 cams.
if my web box software could work on my smart phone, like it does on my computer, this would not be an issue. Mw webbox software requires java and internet explorer to work,...most smart phones will not support both things. At any rate, I am on the cusp o Nirvana

Automation Nirvana. never lasts long for me. My Home Automation setup.... is an ongoing project. And like yourself I also doubted the development of the WiFi module. And I had also moved on with IP cameras (and more) while X10... vacationed. But I am now very excited to see X10 has returned with the WM100.

I look forward to more developments with the WM100 and "skills" that make X10 voice controlled (and more) for everyone.

..... Thanks again to both of you

Mark

I am humbled Mark. And I have a lot to be humble about too. I best represent what the average guy can accomplish with X10 and Home Automation. Just by jumping in... reading directions and instructions... and being willing to try again when I don't immediately succeed. MANY of the guys here (Tuicemen included) have so much more knowledge and experience than myself. I am just prolific in my posts... and have a passion for X10 and Home Automation in general. Thank you Mark.... for taking the time to read my posts.
