My MyQ garage door app (similar to X10's) allows some limited sounds (selected from what is already pre-loaded on my phone). So I get a chime notice when the garage door opens. Other sounds... for other alerts or notices would be handy in the WM100 app... IMHO.

I'm voting "maybe" on this one. I'm guessing this would require a hardware rebuild. I think the Pi would be better suited for such.
If we could pair a Pi and the "Willie 100" via WiFi, I think we could throw out the PC.

Yep... if your at home you'd hear the sound... and even have a unlimited selection of audio choices. But if your away from home... and one of your X10 enabled smoke alarms goes off.... an alert on your phone might be handy. Or a different alert/sound to indicate a door sensor, or macro triggered......
Or... you could even select one of the many pre-loaded texting sounds... and use one exclusory by X10 for important alerts. Then checking your devices would inform you which alert the sound was for.

No wait... it just hit me what you posted. No. No sounds would reside on the WM100. This would have nothing to do with the WM100 unit at all. This would be a software mod of the app itself. You'd be able to select wav files.... that already came pre-loaded on your phone... "to play on your phone" when certain (selected) X10 events happened.
Just like now... if you get a text... your phone makes a sound (you selected the one you like). The X10 event would allow/cause your phone to play a selected sound.

I can see how "notifications" in the app could be useful (maybe with a selectable sound), when certain commands come over the wiring. So, when a motion sensor light is tripped, to get a notification on the phone that the WM100 saw that code, or when the kids come home and turn on the lights, etc.

In the background, yes. There are plenty of other apps that do the same thing (e-mail apps, for example). If the back-end software (does it communicate through a server?) could issue a push notification to the phone, that would be a good way to do it.

Right now some apps are even doing Geocaching. So events happen as you leave/approach home. I realize that the technology will always be expanding and I understand that concerns some people. And I also know there will be plenty of options for the WM100 PRO model too.
But I am sure the code writing staff won't be discharged next week either. And this would make a very attractive update.

Wake on lan is really a bios thing I don't believe Android Phones have this. If the phone is off you don't even get phone calls.
There my be a setting for it if you were to have root access.

No. They could be setup as push notifications (https://www.urbanairship.com/push-notifications-explained).

I also voted maybe on this.
Since many wish this to have an Alexa skill for this and Amazon is looking into doing push notifications for Alexa, there may not be a need when home.
My Phone already makes enough sound so this would have to be configurable for me to use it.
Disable or enable notifications based on: when home or not, time of day to play, on/off or dim and probably a few more things I haven't thought of.
I think if the app were to have assess to notification sounds already on the phone the end user could add custom ones to the list.

Wake on Ring and Wake on LAN were BIOS settings but Wake on Wireless LAN is an Operating System setting.

I can set this up in my bios doesn't matter what OS is running.
Your wireless card must be capable of this as well.
The wake on wifi from the OS is more for when the OS is sleeping not truly off.
So from that stand point I believe there is something simular for Android.
You can have an app watch for phone calls, SMS and incoming wifi signals but they (the app) needs to be running in the background(sleeping) or have special access granted to it.

They aren't watching for them (ie polling). The app is notified when they happen (ie interrupted).

You can code an app to display the message or call id (watching) may not be the best word, they are not polling.
You can code an Android app so it isn't interrupted by specific calls/messages or at least you use to be able to.
