Title: Will my old X10 switches and devices work
Post by: x10house on February 03, 2018, 05:34:16 PM
I bought a house in 2009 that had multiple X10 switches and outlet boxes. I tried to get it working then but ran into many issues and finally gave up. I was searching for a new system now and see that X10 has come back to life with the new wifi hub.
Before i buy it how do i know if what i have is comparable and will work?
what else I would need to get going?
Could i buy another system like vera and use the switches i have? if so which systems?
thanks

The switches and outlet boxes are compatible with the WiFi Hub, aka the WM100. Any X10 RF device (TM751,  Door sensors, Ninja Camera mounts) are not.

That being said, you may run into problems with signal noise, which can be remedied with a little work, or it may work out of the box.

IMHO, its worth the trouble to save what you have.

Active Home Pro is still available for download, but the registration server was lost when X10 WTI went bankrupt.
If you really want the software, search this forum for "AHP Lifejacket"

Even thought the web site says it is out of stock if you scroll down on the AHP page there is a link to the download.

Once installed you'll need to run AHP Lifejacket as Knightrider pointed out.

You may want to read Jeff's great set of X10 troubleshooting tutorials.

You maybe having power line signal sucker and noise makers.

If you don't have some X10 phase coupling or coupler/repeater between the two incoming power lines. You may find about half the home has issues getting the power line signals from the controller to the intended module.

AHP is a Windows 32 bit program and will work on Windows XP to Windows 10.

The WM100 X10WIFI app works on smartphones both Android and iOS, there is nothing currently for a Windows phone.
I have used an android emulator and ran the app from that on a Windows 10 PC.
