Title: Add Alarms to WiFi app?
Post by: Michael Miltich on December 06, 2020, 08:04:58 AM
I would like to be notified over the internet if a X10 event occurs while I'm away. I have multiple X10 modules including flood light motion detectors. When my walkway lights get turned on, I wish the app could be configured to send me an alarm or banner notification when that CODE ON is received (option turned off when I'm home - hmm a geofence as well!). I already have the hardware. Now to see if I can get the software to make it happen. Thanks for participating.

By hardware do you mean the WM100?  I don't use one but in reading the manual for it I don't see any messaging capability documented.

I use a Smartenit Harmony P2 which is similar to but far more sophisticated than the WM100.  It can send texts, email and notifications in response to X10 signals, works with Alexa & Google Home and has robust conditional scheduling options.  It needs a 2412U PLM for X10/Insteon control which is bundled with the P2 for $59.99 ($39.99 for the P2 + $20 for the PLM).    https://smartenit.com/product/harmony-p2/

Although this could be useful I don't see the app ever evolving beyond its current capabilities. The developer seems to have no desire to expand on it other then fix the odd bug. I believe both x10 and the factory are looking at other newer hardware that allows more options.
brobin's  suggestion is the best plug and play solution. However a raspi would also work connected to a cm19 or 15

I have some banner and alarm notifications now. I like them. But they all seem to share the same deficiency [which is]..... limited alarm sounds

Having a selection (or broader selection) of alarms and notifications would be helpful. Most of my notifications share the same "ding-like sound" (on my phone) which I often don't bother with (checking) if I am busy. But my WiFi security alarm plays a "siren" alarm on my phone... which really gets my attention.

I'd like my garage opening sound to be different from my "ring" motion detection sounds (I have two). I's also like different sounds for my various cameras motion detection, as well as the unique "alarm" sound.

What would be most helpful is an app that interpreted the various banners and alerts of the many apps, and assigns or RE-assigns, new alerts.... maybe even "voice alerts".
