Title: Do the various model chime units make different sounds?
Post by: whitedavidp on June 30, 2021, 09:58:18 AM
I already have an old chime unit and I want to add another to my system. But I want the new one to sound different so the two can be distinguished from each other. Any suggestions? Do the newer models have a different sound? Thanks

X10 SC546 Chime modules? Not a security type. Like a SH10 or PH508.

May depend on how old the older one is.

There is some modification information on how to change the old ones. That had a separate sound generation chip.

The newer ones now have the tone information in the controller chip and can't be modified easily.

I know at least one remember here was trying what you are asking. Last I saw presently sold ones can't be changed. They bought a few older ones. That could be modified with the information on how to do it.
You may get more feedback from others who have both the old and new ones.

For the old model {see the photo in the information}
