Two way modules can report back when locally changed and can be polled (Status Request)  for its present state.
None of the presently sold X10 modules can be polled as they have no power line transmitter in them.
Some of the X10 compatible Smarthome modules and Insteon modules if you add an X10 address to them can.
I just checked an older RR501. If you use the local On off Button it does not send an X10 message on changes. Though but did reply to a Status Request on its present state of On or Off.

AHP Manual says:
Two-Way Modules
In addition to receiving commands and turning on and off, some X10
modules can send information back to ActiveHome Pro. These Two-Way
modules (model LM14A Lamp Module and AM14A and AM15A appliance
modules, plus some models from other manufacturers), will have a Poll
button on them. When you click Poll, ActiveHome Pro asks the module its
status, and updates the screen with the new information
