Title: XPFM Wire in module will not turn off.
Post by: emmett518 on December 30, 2022, 04:54:04 PM
I had an XPFM module wired into my back porch light.

About a year ago, the module would turn on, but not turn off.  I figured the module died, and forgot about it.

I found a spare XPFM, and wired it in - White and black to the 110 volt circuit, white and blue to the outside light.

This module does the same thing.

I suppose it's possible that I have to bum modules, but I tend to doubt it.

If there was an interference problem, I would assume that the module would not turn on or off.  In my case, it turns on fine, but not off.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What is the load. Incandescent or LED.
The XPFM may have a am I on or off sensor circuit. This small current can sometimes keep an LED bulb glowing.
On but not off can be the signal is marginal to the light and when on it makes enough noise to stop the off command from working.
Jeff has a good set of tutorials on X10 if you have not looked at them yet.

What Brian H said. I used an XPFM to control my pool light which worked well for years until I changed to an LED bulb. The line noise from the bulb swamped the X10 signal to the module so it never heard the command.  The simple solution was to install a choke on the blue wire in series with the load. If you can't find the one in the article referenced this one should work: ebay.to/3YZWgRO

Have you tried a different bulb?
I had a simular issue a few years back which ended up being the incandescent bulb filament.
I've since switched to all Led lights.
