Title: Problem dimming with remote
Post by: dj on April 15, 2005, 04:52:25 PM
I just bought a ActiveHome Pro system (with
CM15A).
I installed it and since I read that the RF
range was subpar, I installed a TM751.
All modules are responding correctly to
on/off commands, but the dimming does not
work. As soon as I try to dim a lamp with a
remote, the dimming goes all the way down
and I have to wait a couple of minutes
before I regain control of the lights. If I
dim the light from the dimmable switch, it
works.
I did set the CM15A to not listen to any RF
signal, but no luck. The only way it works
is if I remove the TM751, but then the
range of the RF signal is terrible.

Any ideas.

Thank you.

This is sounds like a defective TM751 --
nothing to do with ActiveHome Pro or the
CM15A. Try exchanging it.

You should be able to use the CM15A as the
transceiver. If you set it to transceive the
house codes you need, how does it work?

DJ,

Did you add your TM751 in your AHP
configuration and then select "Auto" as the
transceived House Code?
Looks like a double issuance of dim
commands to me, CM15A + TM751.

If using a dim command always dims all the
way down, it's almost certainly the TM751 --
I've seen that problem before. An easy test
is to unplug the CM15A from AC power and see
if you get the same results.

X10 Pro:
This TM751 module has been given to me by
someone who was not using it anymore. If I
remove the TM751 and use only the CM15A, it
works, but the RF range is too short. Can't
control the lights from the basement.
Is there a way that I could exchange this
module? (I don't know when it was bought).

Martin:

Yes I added the TM751 in AHP. I
tried "None", "Auto" and "Specific code"
with the same result.

This is a well known problem, at least with
older firmware versions of the TM751.  The
RR501 Transceiver doesn't exhibit this
behavior.

X10 -
I have had this problem with several
TM751's. I just thought it was me. How long
is the warranty period on those? Mine are
already several years old, so I'm assuming
that I'd have to buy new ones if I wanted to
replace them. Also, does the bug only affect
the dimming function, or are these other
functions of the TM751 that don't work as a
result?

Charles: Thank you for your feedback. I
will get a new transceiver and try it.

X10 Pro: would a new version of the TM751
work in my environment, or should I go with
the RR501?
Please let me know.

Thanks

DJ: I'm not really sure. I know the RR501 has
never had that problem, so it's definitely OK.

Well, perhaps I'll remove my two TM751's,
and plug in my RR501 in their place. I think
the RR501 should have enough range to
receive signals from everywhere.

Well,
I just received a RR501, replaced the
TM751, problem solved.

Thank you guys for your input :-)
