Title: Firecracker and Active Home Pro
Post by: oliver on May 02, 2005, 09:10:57 AM
Can Firecracker be accessed by Active Home
Pro?

Like so many my of you I have had X10 type
devices for many many many years.  It has
been interesting.  I now have a need to use
my Firecracker with my Active Home so I can
send over wire and over the air different
House codes to address the many dead spots
in my very old small home.

Oliver: Do you have the serial-based
Firecracker? If so, you can't use it with
ActiveHome Pro. You should be able to use
some ActiveHome Pro functions with the USB
Firecracker interface, CM19A.

thanks in advance

I am also trying to figure out how to get the firecracker to work with ActiveHome Pro.  It is not self evident so I would hope the X10 Administrator who posted earlier could provide a little detail on how to make it work since they said it is possible.  I have the USB based model.

I suppose I don't understand what you'll mean by "work with AHP" by using the cm19 firecracker.  It is just an RF sender of house/unit codes.  I have it connected to my laptop (running vista btw), so if I need to send a command and don't want to get the remote, I just press it in via the firecracker remote and it is sent via the 19.  It works perfect for me.   No, the laptop does not have AHP/cm15 hooked to it.

I also use the firecracker program with CM19A and it works fine. I just want to use AHP because I want to be able to make macros and other things the firecracker cannot do.

I've used the AHP Software Development Kit program ahcmd.exe to send RF with the CM19A Firecracker.  It's operation is no worse and no better than with the CM15A - ahcmd.exe crashes at about the same frequency with either.  >:(

I think people are wondering why, if you have a CM15A, do you need the CM19A at all?  What can it do that the CM15A can't do?

I don't have the CM15A. I only have the CM19A.

amsgolfer: Active home Pro comes with the CM15A So if your getting it from X10 there will be no need for your CM19A.
How ever if you just want to create macros and timers there is other free software out there that will work with it!
Also If you just like the look of the AHP software you could download the free European version of AHP and test run it (comes with SmartMacros included)!
It won't display North American modules but it still talks to them You just have to use a light module as a light module and a appliance one as an appliance module! ;)
I haven't tested with the CM19A but it does work with the CM15A!
You can find a link to it on my software page (http://www.angelfire.com/in2/ontkoi/X10AHP/index.html)!
Note: If you try it with the CM19A, Please report back with your findings!

No it does not work with the European Version either. Does anyone know anyway to get the CM19A to work with Activehome Pro or the European Activehome Pro.

amsgolfer:
Why not look at some of the other software alternatives, if you determined to use the CM19A?
Many have more options then AHP, some cheaper (free) and some more expensive!
Most if not all support the CM19A! ;)

Have you purchased Active Home Pro already?

I know you may be attached to using your CM19A but keep in mind that all signals sent by it require your computer to be on. The CM15A will run independent of the the computer for virtually everything. It is unlikely that you will ever need the CM19A after you get AHP with a CM15A.

What kind of things do you want to control with X10? If all you need it to do is turn a light on and off and you don't mind having your computer on 24/7 for that then look at some of the 3rd party software that is available for the CM19A. If you would like to really have control over the lights and appliances in your home, then toss the CM19A in a drawer and buy AHP with the included CM15A.

Using the CM19A with any software for extensive automation control is like trying to run a marathon with a broken leg compared to a simple walk in the park with AHP and a CM15A.

I bought the AHP some weeks ago and it come with the CM19A.
I tought I could use timer when my computer is on, but it seem not work.
All other things work fine and also macro, but nothing with the timer.

Almost nothing with timer, the problem is the following.
When I install the software, timer work only once
After that, timer will never work with any of my appliance.
I uninstall the soft, I install it again and the timer work once again.

I've checked on your website and I can't find the CM15A than I can buy alone.
What's the problem!? Do I have to buy all other things who come with the soft and
taking a chance to buy and see if (this time) I will receive the CM15A instead of the CM19A?!

Maybe there's something who bug with the firecracker and AHP.
So, don't tell me AHP come with the CM15A...

Have a nice day

You most likely bought this kit or something close: http://www.x10.com/promotions/sw31a_ed_tenbucks_special_v3.html
It comes with the CM19A and we don't have much data on how this system works.

Normally the AHP kits come with a CM15A interface, AHP Software and varied added modules depending on the package deal of the day. Sometimes a few module are also thrown into the deals packages.

Here is one presently being offered and it has the basic AHP; a few added plug ins and the CM15A Interface.

I reccommend that anyone buying off of the X10 sales pages read the "Whats Included" information and know what each part is. Before making a decision.
