Title: Run from CM15A or Computer
Post by: gunsb on May 22, 2005, 09:14:39 AM
I am fairly new to X10.  I see that many
people have had issues with both the
software and the hardware.  But as long as
the software (or one of their future
updates) ends up working without problems
for me do you think that running commands
from my computer will be more reliable than
trying to download commands into the CM15A?

You will be fine running without the
computer.  Sadly most complainers are
blaming X10 for issues that are caused by
their own home electronics/wiring and not
knowing how to clean up their own setup.
I've been running AHP free of the computer
with good reliability for a couple months
now.

Gunsb:  When you buy a technical product you
always read the technical specification.
Since the AHP/CM15A deal with RF -- there is
range,  Power Linne Ccommands -- there is
signal strength (DB separation, etc.) and
all the accompanying specifications.  Since
it connects to PC through USB there is
those.  And Oh yes, min/max connectivity and
not just theory since each X10 module
attenuates the X10 signal.  If you haven’t
seen those and they don’t seem to have them
then ask what their warrantee is and
how “defective” gets defined without a
product technical specification?

My CM15A runs well disconnected from the
(since 7 Mar) computer with the exception of
a status report error and somewhat slow
response if 2 or more motion sensors fire
within seconds of each other.  So far so
good...with a diag unit.. 1st unit quit
within 2 hours of disconnect.

I think most of our users run the CM15A not
connected from the computer. Both should work
well, but if you want to use the iWitness
video features or the Internet features
(coming in a future plug-in) you'll want to
keep it connected to the computer.
