Title: simple smart macro doesn't work
Post by: ron on November 20, 2004, 08:42:46 PM
I just purchased the Smart Macro plugin.  I
created a simple smart macro to test but it
doesn't work. Here is the macro: New Macro
2 A6 On andThe day of the week exactly SUN
orThe day of the week exactly SAT (D1)
Christmas Light 1 ON Delay for 10 Second
(D1) Christmas Light 1 OFF No matter what
day it is the light turns on.Any thoughts?

Sounds like the same thing I ran into.
You're probably thinking that the smart
macro with the condition of a specific day
of the week should fire on that day? The
smart macros need something to trigger the
macro to start other than a timer in order
to work correctly. If you use a timer to
trigger the macro it will fire no matter
what the condition. Apparently the original
intent of the design was to accept a trigger
command from one of the many motion sensors
or a dusk/dawn sensor. I asked X10 this same
question and I believe they said that
were "looking into" changing the way a timer
works with a smart macro to allow it to work
as a legitimate trigger. I hope they do
that! Not everyone wants to buy extra
hardware just to get some logic into a
macro.

Silly question...does D1 have a timer set?
Is there a motion sensor set to D1? What
else can send an on for D1. What can trigger
A6? Is there anything other that A6 can
trigger an A6 on, like a timer, macro,
motion sensor? I know it's silly but I was
doing testing and had set mine for what I
thought was an unused code and forgot I had
a motion sensor with batteries sitting on
the counter set to A1 (I use A for all my
testing)and my macro was set to trigger on
A1...So I had an inadvertant conflict of
interest. I cleared my activity log and saw
that I was getting A1 being sent when I
wasn't flipping the switch. I looked over
and there was the motion sensor mocking me.
:-)

So I ask the question out of personal
experience.
