Title: Tiny problem with the forum
Post by: paul warshawsky on December 01, 2004, 02:24:49 PM
If you have participated in a forum thread,
you get an e-mail when another user adds to
that thread.  Interestingly, this does not
occur when you INITIATE the thread -
probably the circumstance in which you
would most want to be notified!

Why would you want a message when you are
starting the thread? I would think that you
would want one when another person has
added to the thread that you have started.

Donald:

If you INITIATE the thread and someone
responds to it you don't get an e-mail.
For example I did not get an e-mail when
you responded to this thread, but you will
get one now when I respond!

Of course now I will get an e-mail when
someone else responds because I have
responded.

Paul - Maybe I misunderstood something -
are you talking about the original person
getting an e-mail for every message in the
thread as it's added to the thread? If that
is the case then a lot of people would be
getting a lot of messages since some of
these things are getting longer and longer -
maybe that is why it was limited to the
last person on the thread getting the e-
mail.

Donald,

As far as I know it is not the last person
on the thread who gets the e-mail, but
every person who has added to the thread,
with the EXCEPTION of the person who first
started it!  Unless he has ALSO responded
in the thread.  For example yesterday I got
10 e-mails as a user and X10 pro went back
and forth on a thread.  I agree this is a
lot of e-mail and ideally it would be nice
to opt out (what I do is just have them go
to a seperate folder.)

The bug is that the user who posts the
first post in a new thread is not added to
the notification list.
