Title: RF dimming confusion.
Post by: Charles Sullivan on July 29, 2005, 07:20:42 AM
According to X10's RF protocol (and my own
observations), the RF signal for dimming does
not include a unit code, so it's necessary to
first send an RF On or Off to address the
particular unit.  However the RF Dim/Bright
icon in AHP (3.187) does include a unit code
along with the house code in its address
window.

When the "Set absolute" button on this RF
icon is depressed, AHP transmits the RF
sequence Off/On/Dim, which serves the
purpose.  However when either the "Dim" or
"Bright" button on the icon is depressed,
only the RF Dim or Bright signal is
transmitted, so only whichever unit (or
units) is currently addressed (if any) will
be dimmed or brightened.

AHP should be modified so that when the "Dim"
or "Bright button is depressed, either:
1. The unit designator in the icon's address
window is suppressed.
- or -
2. An RF On signal is always transmitted
prior to the RF Dim or Bright signal.

(My personal preference would be the former,
to give the more knowledgeable user a finer
degree of control.)

Makes sense to me. It might be good to
implement both 1 and 2 as separate options.
