Is the Xcam 2 rated for outdoor use?  Should I purchase a
weather-proof housing to protect it from rain?

According to X10

“They are weather resistant if the clear
plastic lens cap is fitted. Rain is
acceptable, but submersion in water is
not.” The power supply is not weather
resistant.”
