Title: Converting wireless cameras to wired..
Post by: robert on June 28, 2005, 08:43:02 PM
I bought a few wireless cameras a while
back, but the signal was weak, too much
interferance by other appliances so I kind
of left them in the box. Now I am wondering
if it possible to conver wireless cameras
into wired ones? Has anyone tried it?

My house is old and the walls are solid concrete - I had to
put the wireless recievers in the ceiling and run  wires to a
central location. The only disadvantage is now I have two
cameras on one reciever, and since only one cam can be
active at once, I always get three black screens and one
with a picture.

Yes, I have converted wired X-10 cameras to
wireless using their transmitter.  Set the
transmitter up somewhere (in a shed / dog
house) and run the wired cam to it.  Now
you have converted it to a wireless cam and
all the rest works the same.

I have more than 10 wireless cams on one
receiver so I don't know what David's issue
is.  The receiver only receives one signal
at a time so the number of cameras is
irrelevant.  Only one camera broadcasts at
a time.

Yes I have done it (see camera forum).  I
wouldn't try to give details because you
need experience with electronics to do it.
Simply put, the wires that run from the
camera head to the base are power, video,
sound and ground. The base is the radio
transmitter, so bypassing the base is the
same as switching to a basic wired camera.
I removed the transmitter and placed a
terminal block in the base which
transitions from the very thin camera wires
to more durable shielded wires which run
back to my computer and power supply.  Do
this at your own risk!!!
