Can a floodcam be adapted to mount on a
ceiling rather than a wall? Is an adjustable
mounting arm available?

Yes, you can mount it on the ceiling but
keep in mind that the motion detector is
designed to point in one direction, and
this is also the direction the camera will
face. The camera is not a wide angle, and
it also does not have a mic (will not pick
up audio). Also, do you want outdoor
floodlights in a room?
A Ninja in a corner or against a wall will
cover the whole room.

No, that is the bad thing on the Floodcams
the mount is ridged and very hard to aim or
adjust.

It will work. I replaced the front porch light with a
floodcam. I wasn't able to angle it very far, but I was able
to angle it up enough to get faces before they made it to
the front porch.
However, if you want to angle it at a 90 degree angle to
the ceiling mount, you are out of luck.

They have cameras designed for these
applications. Trying to force a Floodcam
to fit may or may not be possible, but why
not use something that is a better fit?
Besides having a narrow field of adjustment
it has no microphone.

Steve, I should have said eave instead of
ceiling as I intended to replace 1-3
existing outdoor floodlights mounted
horizontally, beneath an eave. A CSR
suggested the mounting plate could be
shimmed a bit to tilt the camera and motion
sensor if mounted vertically like on
JoeMerchant's front porch but said that eave
or ceiling mount wasn't possible.
I was hoping to find someone who had adapted
the Floodcam to an elbow type adjustable
floodlight arm but with the limited
Floodcam/transmitter temperature range and
numerous complaints about sensor
sensitivity, I think I'll pass on this
Floodcam product.
YKZ_Pilot or anyone else - any other
suggestions on an inconspicuous,
inexpensive, wide temperature range, line
powered wireless outdoor camera/motion
detector that could replace an existing eave
mounted floodlight? Audio isn't important
and although 120 degree coverage would show
more driveway or back yard, a wide angle
lens also isn't required.

Oh, and X-10 product developers, why not
offer a new line of motion sensors with
pulse count sensitivity adjustment plus
increase Floodcam sales by using an
adjustable mounting arm similar to the one
used for the floodlights themselves? I bet
a quick neighborhood survey would show that
half of the existing floodlights are mounted
horizontally rather than to a wall so
doesn't a $0.25 camera arm change which
might double the potential customer base and
would allow wall mounted Floodcams to be
shimlessly aimed seem worthwhile?

I'm reasonably certain that X10 sells a
simple motion detector floodlight with NO
camera. You can add additional motion
detectors by buying a boxed set of those
little hawkeye sensors and setting them to
turn on that floodlight (or bank of
floodlights). With all of that light in the
backyard you should be able to add standard
X10 cameras and put them anywhere and anyhow
you want. This gets past all of the rigid
restrictions the floodcam's single gadget
solution offers.
