Title: Aren’t there any happy or satisfied X10customers?
Post by: rick on July 14, 2005, 01:29:11 PM
I just bought $600 worth of X10 products
(Active pro kit + several cameras)

The only problem I have:  is that I didn’t
read the forum before I went out and bought
the stuff.
Should I be scared?  I should receive it
tomorrow…..just hope all turns out ok……

I'm suddenly concerned as well.  I was
pretty excited about finding this company...
now I'm not so sure.

I'm looking forward to any follow up to your
post.

Rick,`
I'm sure you'll be glad you purchased x10
product. I've had a good experience on all
of their equipment including customer
service. I had a $950 system installed at
my old house and it secured my property
just pichie. When I sold that property I
was able to get $3,000 more at closing only
because of the system. I just purchased the
same system for my new house 5 minutes ago
and cant wait for it to arrive. I'm sure
you wont be disappointed w/ your purchase.
Good luck bro...

I know that these cameras are supposed to
be simple to operate but I am in need of
assistance in hooking everything up
together. I purchased multiple cameras for
monitoring my home as well as recording
through my VCR. Now that I've made the
purchase, my order arrived with NO
instructions and customer support says
there are no installers in my area
(Cincinnati/NKY). Can someone please help?

Brenda; Don't know if it will help. Try the
support link on an X10 Page. Then in the
technical area is some downloadable
instalation instructions. Some have both
simplified and detailed versions. I am sure
that if you still have questions, there will
be many here to give advice.

I am very happy with my pro camera kits.
However I live in a rural area and have
virtually no interference.

The ads say reception up to 100 feet. My
cameras are at 70 feet with a questionable
reception.
The camera locations jump around on the
control panel so you don't know what one
woill show up on which number button.
The VCR Commander would not work on my VCR.
I could not download the multi view, web
view & pan/tilt software.
I found that the standard x10 Cam2 did not
produce as clear a picture as the x10 Wide
Eye Camera.
Numerous calls to customer service meant
long 15-30 minute waite. On line messages
went unanswered.
Needless to say I returned the entire
system as totaly unacceptible.
X10 staff could use a few lessons in
showing appreciation to the customer, learn
to say thank you & to sincerely apologize
for the problems.

Rick,
When you get the package, you need to plan
before you install!  Range of the wireless
cams is a function of line of site.  That
means that the more that is between you and
the camera, the shorter the max range.

Walls, trees, and other fixed items must be
taken into consideration.  Walls with wires
or lights or other electronic items will
also reduce the range.

You can use a battery pack and try
locations for the camera and the receiver
to see what is the best arrangment.  Take
you time and do a little planning and your
experience will be much better.

Good luck,
Larry K

I guess its easier to complain than to
praise. I just received my hhome security
kit and hooked it up without a problem.
There is a difference betwwen where you you
want to place the DS7000 and where the most
effective place is. I just replaced a ADT
system and I really find this system
better. I beleive this system will and can
work for everyone if the setup and
preplanning is done correctly.

Hi Brenda,

I have more than 10 cameras, some Ninjas,
some low-light, some FloodCams.

All are working great, and if the VCR
commander and motion detector are
programmed properly (fairly simple) it will
record with movement and then stop.

You should have received instructions with
each VCR commander and motion detector.  If
not you can download them from the X10 site
I believe.  I have a binder full of all the
documentation that I have received with my
products. ... (and the multiples were
recycled).

One thing that helps when using them in a
large house is to have multiple
transceivers.  I have 4 uin use.

Also, if using software - most problems are
caused by conflicts with existing hardware
and software issues.  People freak out at X-
10 support people because they don't
understand the complexities involved.
Every software developer has to deal with
these issues.

Steve,
What transceiver are you using multiple
copies of?  I thought one would have to use
repeaters, not multiple transceivers in a
large house.  Thanks!

Hi Dennis,

Repeaters could work too depending on the
appilcation.  The transceiver turns your RF
frequency from the remotes into a signal
sent through your house wiring ... with
multiple transceivers, the closer one will
receive the signal where ones further away
will not.  For example, I have a cam on the
incubator in the basement, but the
transceivers were on the main and 2nd
floors.  The remote didn't always work from
the basement so I put a transceiver in the
basement and voila!

I bought so many bundles I had several
laying around so why buy a repeater?  Just
make sure they are set to the same house
code and you will get better reception from
any remote.

I have been asking for a Transceiver that
did not have an appliance module in it but
it has not been delivered yet, so you have
to hear the loud clicking every time you
use device #01.  Oh well ...

you can put them on different floors ...

Only problem with more than one tranceiver.
The TM751 being the worse as it has no line
receiver and is not polite. It will step on
any other tranceivers or controllers line
signals and make them a garbaged mess. Not a
problem if signals are not reaching other
units.

I got my system yesterday and with a little
twiking with the video reciever, my cameras
work pretty good for the price.

I am satisfied with it overall.  Just wish
that the video reciever was not limited to
just one TV to see your cameras.

It's not limited to one TV if you split the
cable from the receiver and run them to
multiple TVs.  It's probably easier just to
get multiple receivers.  Just buy the
package deals and you'll sava a lot of
money and get extras of things to set up in
multiple locations.  I have a receiver on
each TV in the house and the workshop so I
can monitor any camera from any location.
Also, it is monitored on multiple PCs.

Thanks Steve,
I think I will buy another video reciever
for the TV in our master bedroom.   I do not
think I will try to run a video cable that
would be one heck of a run.

I did get a package with 4 cameras, 4
tilt/rotate and a bunch of other stuff.  It
was a great deal.

Damn. I just came here to see if anyone was
having problems.
Bought the low-light cameras to use in my 3
yr old daughters room as a baby cam. Turn it
on didnt see squat. Of course I am now
educated about their low-light "night vision"
terminology. Called tech support first he
said if I didnt like them send them back.
After I got over wanted to beat the hell out
of him, I researched the IR illuminator
suggestion he gave me. That basically worked,
just surprised quality of video output sucks
after about 15 minutes. And I have never
after 2 months of installing, reinstalling,
Windows and Multi-view gotten the software to
work. At least the VA11A drivers work with
XP, but the quality of video still sucks.

Actually I've not seen a camera on the
marjet that woks in the dark...even the eld
cams are only good for 10' feeet and thats
not a clear picture at all. For a baby's
room I would use an ordinary cam
