Title: Solar panel for x10 cameras?
Post by: frowny on October 10, 2005, 05:47:18 AM
Hey x10, here is an idea...Why don't you
source and resell 12volt solar panels to go
with your x10 cameras?  You could sell a
package deal where a customer could buy a
solar powered rf camera which could be
placed in isolated locations where it is
difficult to runwires to. IMAGINE, NO WIRES
AT ALL! I have seen numerous solar cell
kits for about $10 retail out there which
should work.

Good idea.  That means x10 won't do it.

I see a couple of issues - will need a big
enough battery to store power unless you
don't need the cameras at night -it will
require a big enough collector to provide
sufficient power and you  would also need
to convert from ac to dc which isn't that
big of a deal - when its all said and done
the payback period might be about 3- 5
years or more but the real benefit would be
remote self sufficient power so why not do
it yourself and save the markup?

I just did.  US$12 for the solar panel w/
sufficiet current to drive the camera.
Collector is 1 x 6 inches.  Solar panels
generate DC non-pulse current, so that is
not an issue. Will make low cost voltage
limiter for the output.  These x10 cameras
are useless in the dark and spotlights
don't help, even the so called "night watch
cameras".  IR cameras work much better in
dark.  I may just trash these x10s and
convert to all IR camera.  They are same.
