Title: numeric keypad

has anyone found a way to use a numeric
keypad to arm/disarm the protector plus
security system instead of the keychain
remote?

There is no way to use the keypad to disarm
and arm the system, when this product was
first introduced to my security company, i
said the same thing.  The keypad is only
there to program the unit for message
dialing purposes only.  Now unless you are
really a tech you can modify the unit, but
good luck and it will void your warantee.

A keypad activated remote is what is needed.
I am looking into the possiblity of making
one.

I had a thought, that is only mildly tech,
you could build a numeric keypad to turn off
your system by canabalizing a keychain
remote.  By using a Garage door opener
transmitter / receiver which uses a rolling
code type technology (i.e. Gene) who makes a
keypad remote, you could wire a relay from
the receiver, which would close the contacts
of the relay, which in turn would be wired
to the contacts points of the key chain
remote button.  Or if you really want to get
out there you could not canabalize your
remote and wire up a silanoid to actually
push the button.  Just a thought.
The "rolling code" type transmitters will
still provide some measure of protection.

If there is a set of conacts on or in the
console that when connected arm or disarm
the system, this is what you could do:  I
have not looked into getting one in years,
12 to be exact, but radio shack used to sell
a keypad with two relays.  On relay was
activated by pressing the # and * buttons
and could be set to stay on until those
buttons were pressed again or for a few
seconds.  The other relay was activated when
the programmable four number code was keyed
into the pad.  With the same on/off
options.  Like I said, I haven't looked at
getting one for years and I doubt with
radios shack's new style, they still sell
such a thing, but I'm sure a security system
maker out there somewhere would have a
similar item.  Sorry I can't be more exact,
just an idea.
