Title: Does X10 have pet immune motion detectors?
Post by: G. Weaver on June 06, 2004, 08:30:30 PM
Have been comparing systems and like what I
see with X10 the most but...cannot find any
info on the web site on X10 pet immune
motion detectors.
A number of other systems offer up to 80#
immune detectors. I've got 2 dog (largest
about 60#) that are in the house during the
day. Need detectors that will pick up a
human intruder but not the dogs. Any
suggestions (can't use just window/doors
sensors. dogs go in & out of a medium sized
dog door during the day...person could too)?
Thanks in Advance
GW

Hi, X-10 does not make pet immune specific
motion sensors.  The motion sensor has a 90
degree field of view, and can detect up to
40 feet away, I have two suggestions you
can get some black tape and cover the last
one or two rows of lenses of the unit.  Try
that out and play around with it.  Or two
place the unit higher than the 5-6 ft
suggested height.  But the first suggetion
should work.

Sorry I was not clear about placing tape on
the lenses.  I meant the bottom one or two
rows of lenses.  Also if that does not
work, there are some manufactures that sell
photoelectric sensors (typically the ones
stores use when you enter and it chimes)
The unit can be placed above the dogs
height and i will send a beam of invisable
light to a reflector at the other end, when
a "human" breaks the beam it will
close/open the circuit. So if you remove
the standard door contact set and wire it
to a photoelectric beam sensor it should
work.
