Post by: david on August 12, 2004, 02:33:12 PM
I have a wireless system from radio shack 49-
2551 I need some more door sensors and a
power horn siren.the price is a little high
compared to the deals x10. will they work
with my system or do I have to pay my dues
at the shack?

I mix and match my X10 stuff purchased in the
last few years with on/off modules I bought
at Radio Shack back in the late 80's.
Everything works together.  Systems made my
BSR (I think that was the name of the
company) should also work (sold long ago).

Actually, I've found some things are cheaper
at Radio Shack. Like the universal module,
and sometimes the wall switch modules. If
you are making a small purchase, it also
allows you to avoid shipping, plus you can
get it that same day, 'cause you go get it
yourself.

I was just in Radio Shack yesterday. They
have a new design on their lamp and
appliance modules. They now have a door on
the front to cover the rotary switches. It
gives them a cleaner, less industrial look.

Hi does anyone know the answer because
radio shack people do not. I have the plug
n power wireless security system and
desired an outside siren. Only one guy at
another store knew of a model which HE SAYS
will work with my system. They sold me
a "protector plus powerhorn power line
siren" model #PH508 radioshack #49-1120. I
really don't think this will work and I
don't know how to link it to my system thus
I don't want to open the package.
Does anyone out there know the answer?
Thanks, Denn

No from all the tests done by me and others.
Not unless Radio Shack has modified the 49-
1000 console or the PH508 is a special
version for them. In that case I would think
it would not have the standard part number
on it.

I was wondering if the Plug 'n PowerŪ
Wireless Home Security System from radio
shack is x10 compatable.  I want some
wireless glassbreak sensors and radio shack
doesn't make any for this system, but if it
is x10 compatable then I have the problem
solved.

Frank;
I believe X10 made both the older and recent
security systems for Radio Shack. I know the
49-1000 is an X10 as it's FCC IDs trace back
to X10. Look at any of your sensors. Is the
FCC ID# B4S to start off? I believe others
have also said the sensors are
interchangable. Only problem is PowerHorn
Sirens. They do not work with the new 49-
1000 but RS sells them for their older
system. I don't think that X10 lists the
Glass Break Sensors on the site any more,
but I guess you could wire one to a
door/window sensor. I believe Matt verified
this in the older posts to this message that
RS was an OEM X10.

I've tried this system for several months
and mix and match x10 with radio shack.
The x10 door sensor and ms10a and appliance
and lamp modules are compatible.

I have problems with my RS sensors not
reporting to the 49-1000 console. I am now
considering buying X10 sensors to work with
the RS console. Will the X10 MS13A HawkEye
II Motion Sensors work with the RS console?
Are they actually "security" sensors or
just for control of lights?
[x10 is offering these on sale today!!!]

Ali; No the standard X10 Motion Sensors will
not work with the security consoles.

x10's ms10a motion security sensor will
work with 49-1000.

Just curious: what is the basic difference
between the standard sensors and security
sensors?

Standard sensor sends a standard X10 RF code
just like a remote. It can turn on and off
X10 devices through a Tranceiver. The
Security Sensors have to be registered with
the console and use a special extended type
X10 code. This code isn't even accepted by
most X10 Type Tranceivers.

where can I get a vcr to record possibly on
a cd for my x10 system?  Does x10 sell this
type of vcr?  I would like for it to record
over 500 hours if possible.  Thanks for the
response.

There is an 8 channel (8 cameras) DVR PC
card that is being talked up in other
forums.  This is a dream card that provides
240 FPS (30 FPS per camera with 8 cameras)
and has software that allows motion
detection, etc.  It's like $139.00 and the
only limit to how many hours you can record
is the size of your hard drive (s).  A 500-
hour vcr didn't used to exist...don't know
now but the price would be high and the
frame quality is poor compared to digital.
