Title: Repetitive trouble alarm question
Post by: jeff black on November 29, 2004, 10:23:44 PM
Security system model DS7000 security console
PS561
My question is how do you reset the console.
When I get a trouble alarm I can stop that by
pressing disarm. My problem is
I can't get the system to work with 4 motion
detectors. System works just
fine with 3 but when I try to install the 4th
unit I'll get a trouble alarm.
Then remove the batteries from the 4 motion
detector, then when I try to arm
the system with just 3 units I still get the
trouble alarm. the only way I
can clear the trouble alarm is to unplug the
console and pull the battery
and then reinstall all door/window sensors
and the 3 motion detectors. Is
there a easyer way to reset the console?

not as far as i can figure out either, i
have a similar problem where occasionally
one of the garage sensors will drop off and
the only way to sort it is to reprogram the
console without this. or else you need to
press bypass everytime you want to set your
alarm

I think I have just started having the same
problem?  One of my D/W sensors causes the
console to slowly flash it's number and my
console gives me 5 beeps about every hour.
I have replaced the batteries in the sensor
and it test good, but the monitor still
flashes slowly and I am still getting the 5
beeps.  It continues even after I remove
the batteries from the sensor.  Any ideas?

Same problem here. It is very frustrating.

I finally cleared all sensors out of the
monitor and reinstalled them.  This cleared
up the trouble, but I don't want to have to
do that every time I have a problem.

Jeff,

You may be getting RF collisions among the
motion detectors preventing the console from
receiving the off signal from one of the
units after it was triggered (sent the on).
Try triggering the "stuck" unit and give it
time to send the off signal without any
other sensor being triggered.

Check the insulation under all of the screws
at the remote contacts and transmiter.  I
had a similar problem and found that the
wire insulation had not been proberly
removed.  Thermal expansion would create an
intermitant problem.  I found this same
problem on almost all of my remote sensors.
It is poor quality assembly method by X10.

I've got the sasme exact problem with the 1
zone only. I have replaced the door/window
sensor, reprogrammed numerous times and
still get the slow flashing (on that zone)
and the occasional 5 beeps form the console

I have reinstalled my 2 motions and 10 D/W
sensors 3 times in last a couple weeks for
the same problem.  I was told the system uses
2.4 GHZ RF and my cordless phone and wireless
adsl router uses that as well. I'm wondering
that has any thing to do with one of the D/W
sensor gets lost after a while?  I also get
problem on D/W will not chime (on RUN2 mode)
sometimes.  Any help will be appreciated.

I had the same problem some months ago, to
solve it, reinstall new batteries in the
D/W sensor in 30 seconds and later press
the test button until the LED blinked
quickly (this reset the sensor). After this
the problem was resolved. Every time that
the console indicates low batteries in some
sensor, I make the same thing and I have
not had more problems.

I can't arm with my handheld remote
control, I'll get a trouble alarm and the
lamp module turn on, but my keychain remote
control work ok. Why?

Hi,

I'm also having this slow flashing and
chime every hour which is quite irritating.
Is this a bug or what?  I just bought my
unit and thinking of returning the unit if
there's no fix.  Any ideas if this can be
fixed (hello X10?)?  Any comments on the 30
day money back guarantee of X10?

From so many replies, now I know I am not
the only one having this problem. This
problem is very annoying. The security
system by nature has to be very reliable. If
sensors fail to report every now and then,
how can you trust your security system? I
think X-10 should be held accountable and
should be forced to fix this issue. I am
sure this is a bug.

i just got off the phone with (Tom) he is
the customer support manager. so i told him
about the issue and is issuing an rma for
return.
i bought mine last year in march and started
having this problem four months ago and i
couldn't fix either.

I'm having the same "5 beeps every hour" problem with
sensors randomly losing connections despite the test
button and manual triggering functioning normally. This
is highly irritating. I am thinking of returning the
products.

I've already tried moving the base console closer to the
sensors and have reset the whole darn thing nine times
already in just two days... I haven't been getting any sleep
with this blasted thing chiming all the time.

bruce b

try this

it maybe due to one of your door contacts
are spaced to far apart. check them and you
might have to put them close together.
then reset the whole system. put in a new
battery. and see what happens.

I tried replacing the batteries, checked the distance
between contacts (they are touching arrow to arrow)
resetting the system again, re-stripping the wires that
connect to the magnetic contact switches, etc. I am still
getting the slow blinking trouble lights and 5 beeps on
the window sensors. The motion detectors work fine. On
"run 2" all window sensors chime as they should, but the
blinking lights don't go away on the console.

switch the censors over to door contact.then
hit the little white button maybe that will
help but you have to do the total reset
again. if it don't

Switching the sensor to "door" doesn't help... the sensors
are not being tripped, they appear to be randomly losing
contact with the console or are otherwise malfunctioning
since the "trouble alert" keeps appearing. There is no way
to aleviate the trouble alert unless I reset the entire
system, but then the "trouble alert" will reappear within
minutes... always afflicting a random set of door/window
sensors, but never the motion sensors. Otherwise, the
sensor behave normally, flashing with the test light and
chiming in "run 2" mode. However, with the sensors in
"trouble alert" mode, I cannot arm the system unless those
sensors are bypassed. I have requested an RMA and have
yet to receive a response. These door/window sensors are
very unreliable. I have requested to exchange them for the
motion sensors which are working fine for me. No
response via email, online "chat" just provides me with
email and phone number. Very dissapointed with support
and product quality so far. Be warned.

I've managed to solve this problem by using
fresh alkaline batteries.  Initially I was
using Nickel Metal batteries.  I've been
using the alarm for 3 months now and so far
no problems.

I tried fresh alkaline Duracell's... still no go. I am returning
the 5 window/door sensors in exchange for 2 motion
sensors. I've had no problems with the motion sensors.

I take it this isn't something that is going
to go away anytime soon? Has anyone left
this for 48 hours of regular unarmed use and
had the troubled zone clear after replacing
the batteries?

It's obvious the D/W Sensors are still
communicating with the console otherwise we
wouldn't be hearing it beep on run2 when
opening the door/window zone in question.
It just keeps on blinking slow and steady
making its chirp every hour.

You mean to tell me there is simply no other
alternative? We have no course of action to
take but to re-install the system when this
bug rears its head?

Is this a bug in the console? Sure sounds
like it but… I’ll %$#& pink elephants if we
get a confession from X10 and instructions
on what to do about it.

Why isn’t it in the Security FAQ? I’ll tell
ya why…because if it were they would be
obligated to pull their product and honor
hundreds of returns.

I have never known a company in my life that
gets away with so much horse crap.  It
simply staggers the imagination.

I have had my DS7000 in place and
functional for over 6years with door
sensors and motion sensors with no problem
until just this week.  The only change I
have done in my home is that I have added a
power strip with surge protection and added
a new PC with a larger monitor.  I have
other PCs in house and have a large screen
TV and 5.8GHz phone all running and have
had no problems until just after installing
the new PC/monitor and surge suppressor
strip. I am getting the
constant "beeping/dingin" from the PS561.
I have deleted all sensors and re-installed
them, replaced all batteries in all units,
and moved the controller with no success.
Sometimes it runs for 4 or 5 hrs then
starts the same problem.  Sometimes I can
re-install all of my sensors and then have
the problem stay away for several hours and
at other times I can only get up to 3
installed before the problem resurfaces.  I
am looking in to the fact that I have a
degraded signal and or added noise on my AC
lines because of the added surge supressor
and or PC and monitor.  I am looking to
install a coupler/repeater to bridge both
sides of the AC lines and re-transmit/boost
the X10 signal as well as get either a plug-
in noise filter for the recent
PC/monitor/surge protector I have added or
go all the way and install a whole house
surge protector and scrap the local power
strips with surge suppressors in them.  Has
anyone tried filters/surge
suppressors/repeater to correct the problem
or have these items already in place in
their homes and still have the same problem?

i sent mine back and they sent me a new
console. and after three days it started
again.
i played around with it and did it all over
again.
and found out that it was my door censor.
that caused the problem. i had to move the
contacts closer together put the console on
install again and hit the button on the d/w
censor and then it stopped.

I just bought my system and I'm having the
same problem.  This is not good that we all
are having this issue..  They are sending me
another console, but it sounds like that
will not fix my issue.....

I am also having the same problem on my
front door.x-10 said use a motion sensor
instead. There is a real problem with these
dw sensors but only in some areas. All 5 of
my others are fine.I've tried all areas such
as new batts,moving console,etc

This needs to be addressed. I have had this
problem with all 4 Protector Plus units I
have installed. One in particular i finally
removed the d/w sensor from that door out of
frustration and now that is a week point in
the home security system. We should not have
to be putting in motion sensor instead,, fix
the darned problem with the d/w sensors

I have isntalled my home security system,
the problem I have is that every now and
then, one or other mtoion sensor doesnt
have contact with the console(the red led
at the console stays always on) so I have
to be presing the test buttons on the back
of them every now and then. Batteries are
all new. What could be the problem

Given all of the posts in this support site
i would have to say that there is an
inherent prolem wit the product. Maybe
everthing worked well before cell phones and
the norm in the househiold using 2.4 GHz as
well. I have no end of probs now with
installs,, false alarms, zones
getting "lost" ,, lights coming on all by
themselves..  I am losing customers and
sleep when I install these products. My
problem is I have abig stock of stuff and a
pretty large , approx $3000.oo investemnt.
We need support from X10 the company.. This
support group is great but we are all sayin
the same things.....

Just got the system 2 days ago so this
should be the very latest version.
Unfortunately I am having the same problems
as reported here.

I have followed all the tips on this site
and was kept awake last night by the
constant beeping of the system.

I am using rechargeable batteries for cost
efficiency reasons and these seem to be the
problem.  I charged the batteries last
night and installed them.  There were no
problems until about 3:00am.

The batteries are Duracell 2050mAh 1.2V
units.  The discharge profile of these
batteries is very predictable i.e. they
hold the full voltage until they are nearly
dead.  This means that even over a few
months usage on a system like X10 the
voltage loss should barely discernable. In
this case I am not sure why the trouble
alarm is triggered as the 1.2 volts are OK
for the first few hours.

I replaced the newly charged batteries with
some old Alkalines and the trouble alarm
went away (I still had to re-set the whole
system).

I can only conclude that the Alkaline
batteries are the way to go.....but I will
have to return the unit in that case.

X10, you really need to sort this unit
out.  It is clear that the sensors are
communicating with the console (as they
trigger chimes etc), but trouble alarms are
constantly triggered.  It would help if the
battery power detector in the sensors was
more flexible and could recognize the
starting voltage of batteries used i.e.
rechargeables.  Better still, get rid of
the trouble alarm all together or at least
the beeping.

Some work to be done here.

Cheers,

Ant

I have a Powerhouse PS561. I'm getting the
5 chimes an hour also, but I have no
flashing lights. I am using 14 out of 16
zones, and can't "see" what the last 6
zones are doing, since there are not LED's
for them. How can I "see" which of these
zones is giving me the problem? I've been
using the system for three months now with
no prblems. This just started. Occasionally
the LED to my garden shed flashes to let me
know that one has not reported in recently.
This D/W sensor is quite a distance away
from the base. It always eventually reports
in and takes care of itself. Can anyone
tell me how to determine which of the other
zones may be creating the problem without
resetting everything first?

I just bought what I believe is the Radio
Shack version of the X10 Wireless Security
System. After having my house broken into on
Tuesday, I bought this alarm in hopes I
would sleep again. I just finished the
install (console + 1 motion + 3 doors + 5
windows) and set it for armed home.  15
minutes later I get a false door alarm (a
door that can't even be opened due to being
boarded shut). I unregistered the sensor and
rearmed the unit to home. 10 minutes later I
get a window alarm. Again, false alarm.
From everything I've read here, this is the
same sort of trouble you're all seeing from
your systems. Anyone else have the RS 49-
1000 specifically and have it working right?
I've ended up pulling the power and batts to
shut it up.... now let's see if I can
sleep....
